Prevalence and impact of cerebrovascular risk factors in patients with giant cell arteritis: An observational study from the Spanish national registry
CONCLUSION: Hypertension, along with male sex, was the strongest risk factor for cerebrovascular events in GCA patients. In these high-risk patients, antiplatelet therapy should be re-considered and evaluated in prospective studies.PMID:37105843 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2023.04.004

Characteristics and management of patients with stroke and major hemorrhagic episodes with atrial fibrillation under vitamin K antagonist therapy. EVENTHO study
CONCLUSIONS: In the sample studied, half of the AF patients who suffered stroke/SE or major hemorrhagic episode had inadequate TTR and, despite this, after hospital discharge, they restarted treatment with VKA. These results highlight the need to evaluate safer and effective therapeutic alternatives in AF patients with poor TTR control after suffering a stroke/SE or major hemorrhagic episode.PMID:35120766 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2021.12.004

Associated factors with functional prognosis of patients with acute ischemic stroke undergoing thrombectomy
CONCLUSION: Age, T2D and failed recanalization increase risk for unfavorable outcome at 90 days in patients with AIS treated with MT. Procedure time duration should be considered as a possible determinant factor in functional outcome.PMID:35042605 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2021.11.010

Gender differences in antithrombotic treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation from Spain versus the rest of Western Europe. GLORIA-AF Program
CONCLUSIONS: OAC rates were higher in Spain as compared to rWE. More women received OACs in Spain, while in rWE no difference by gender was observed. DOACs in rWE are the most prescribed OAC while in Spain, due to prescription barriers, its use remains low for both genders and VKAs are preferred. Spanish women received more DOACs compared to men. (NCT01468701).PMID:34895750 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2021.09.016

Cardiovascular diseases in people with diabetes mellitus in Spain according to the Primary Care Clinical Database (BDCAP) in 2017
CONCLUSIONS: This study shows the high cardiovascular comorbidity of patients with diabetes in Spain, with a greater excess of risk in patients under 65 years of age, more pronounced in women. We should offer more intensive treatment for DM2 in women.PMID:33810870 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2020.12.040

Spanish validation of the Neurogenic Bowel Dysfunction score -NBD score- in patients with central neurological injury.
CONCLUSIONS: The Spanish version of the NBD score is a valid tool for use in our environment; it will allow a more real approach to the disability situation of each patient in relation to neurogenic intestinal dysfunction and knowledge of the degree and the involvement and effectiveness of management through different therapeutic proposals.
