Risk of intracranial hemorrhage with direct oral anticoagulation versus low molecular weight heparin in the treatment of brain tumor-associated venous thromboembolism: A meta-analysis
Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are effective in treating cancer-related thrombosis and are superior to low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) in terms of efficacy. The effects of DOACs or LMWH on intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) remain uncertain in individuals with brain tumors. We conducted a meta-analysis to compare the frequency of ICH in individuals with brain tumors treated with DOACs or LMWH.

Clinical features and prognostic factors in patients with cancer-associated multiple ischemic stroke: A retrospective observational study
Cancer causes coagulation abnormalities in arterial and venous systems.1,2 A highly active cancer is an established risk factor of ischemic stroke,3 and patients with cancer sometimes receive additional burden due to cancer-associated ischemic stroke (CAIS).4,5 Multiple cerebral infarctions involving various cerebrovascular territories in cryptogenic CAIS, referred to as “multiple CAIS” in this report, are of particular clinical interest since they lead to poor prognosis, with a median survival of at most a few months.

Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke After Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Pulmonary Lobectomy in Patients With Lung Cancer: A Report of Four Cases and Literature Review
Postoperative cerebral embolic stroke is a serious complication of pulmonary lobectomy, occurring in 1.1% of patients undergoing lobectomy through video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). The mechanism of this complication is thought to be embolic stroke caused by thrombus formed due to stagnation in the pulmonary vein stump after VATS lobectomy. There have been few reports demonstrating the utility of endovascular treatment (EVT) for cerebral embolic stroke after VATS lobectomy.

Endovascular Therapy is Effective for Large Vessel Occlusion Despite Concurrent Cancer
Ischemic stroke and concurrent cancer is increasingly recognized. However, optimal management is uncertain. As mechanical thrombectomy has become the standard of care for large vessel occlusion, more patients with cancer are presenting for embolectomy. However, it is unknown whether this subgroup has the same benefit profile described in multiple randomized trials for thrombectomy for large vessel occlusion. Our objective was to retrospectively evaluate a North American embolectomy database for safety and outcomes in patients with active cancer.

Globally, stroke is a major contributor to death and disability.1 Evidence-based care in hospital after an acute stroke ensures improved survival and reduced disability, but care quality can vary.2,3 Clinical coordinators have an essential role in improving best-practice in trauma, cancer, diabetes, and heart failure conditions.4-7 Within stroke, coordinator roles are not new; in 1970, a study outlining the ‘Stroke Team’ model was published, which included a physician, nurse-coordinator and physical therapist.

Elevated CA125 is Related to Stroke Due to Cancer- Associated Hypercoagulation
It is well-known that cancer patients commonly have ischemic stroke and the incidence is getting increased with the development of cancer therapy prolonging survival.1 Ischemic stroke in cancer patients is caused by various etiologies. Cancer-associated hypercoagulation is one of the major important pathophysiological mechanisms of stroke in cancer patients.2,3 This hypercoagulation is mediated by multiple mechanisms associated with tissue factor, mucin, and cysteine proteinase. Carcinomatous mucins are considered to trigger thrombogenicity by interacting with P and L selectins and inducing the formation of platelet-rich microthrombi.

Association Between Weight Loss and Activities of Daily Living in Obese and Overweight Patients after Stroke: A Cross-Sectional Study
Obesity is an important issue in global health care. Between 1975 and 2016, the proportion of obese individuals in the world nearly tripled. In fact, 39% of adults aged 18 years and older were overweight in 2016 and 13% were obese, using the traditional definition of overweight and obesity, namely, a body mass index (BMI)> 25 kg/m2 and> 30 kg/m2, respectively.1 Obesity is associated with a significant increase in mortality2,3 and the risk of many disorders, including metabolic and cardiovascular disease,4 cancer,5 infection,6 and physical limitations,7 as well as increasing healthcare costs.
