Narrative review of sleep and stroke.
Authors: PĂ©rez-Carbonell L, Bashir S Abstract Sleep disorders, such as sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), insomnia or restless legs syndrome (RLS), are common in the general population and after stroke. In some cases, sleep disturbances are pre-existing, but can also appear de novo as a direct consequence of brain damage or due to stroke-related complications. Furthermore, some sleep conditions may act as a risk factor of stroke. This review explores the available evidence of the two-way relationship between sleep and stroke. Cardiovascular physiological changes during sleep are described, as well as the evidence o...

Benefit of initial dual-therapy on stroke prevention in Chinese hypertensive patients: a real world cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates that, for patients with uncontrolled hypertension, initial dual therapy is more effective in the prevention of stroke during the first 6 months of treatment, but not thereafter. Combination antihypertensive therapy may be a beneficial initial strategy for early stroke prevention. PMID: 26101644 [PubMed]

Poor enhancement pattern of left atrial appendage in cardiac computed tomography is associated with stroke in persistent atrial fibrillation patients.
Conclusions: The LAA enhancement pattern observed using cardiac CT is associated with the risk of stroke. Poor enhancement in the LAA suggests a potential high risk of stroke. PMID: 31559034 [PubMed]

Sleep-disordered breathing and stroke: chicken or egg?
Authors: Alexiev F, Brill AK, Ott SR, Duss S, Schmidt M, Bassetti CL Abstract The bidirectional interaction between sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and stroke has been the subject of many studies. On the one hand, different forms of SDB, and especially obstructive sleep apnea, increase the risk of stroke either directly or indirectly by influencing other known cardiovascular risk factors such as arterial hypertension and arrhythmias. On the other hand, stroke itself can cause either de novo appearance of SDB, aggravate a pre-existing SDB, or trigger a transition from one type of pathological SDB pattern into anoth...

One-stage hybrid procedure for distal aortic arch disease: mid-term experience at a single center.
Conclusions: The one-stage hybrid procedure provides acceptable mid-term results with good mid-term patency of extra-anatomic bypass. Strict selection of patients suitable for hybrid repair can effectively improve the survival rate and reduce the incidence of complications. At the same time, close follow-up patients should receive close long-term follow-up after hybrid procedure. PMID: 33447400 [PubMed]

Study on the predictive ability of emergency CHADS < sub > 2 < /sub > score and CHA < sub > 2 < /sub > DS < sub > 2 < /sub > -VASc score for coronary artery disease and prognosis in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
CONCLUSIONS: Multiple factors jointly affect the severity and prognosis of CAD in patients with acute STEMI. The CHA2DS2-VASc score is better than the CHADS2 score in predicting the severity of coronary artery lesions and prognosis of patients, providing theoretical support for clinical practice.PMID:35928606 | PMC:PMC9344425 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-22-763
