Mechanisms of early and delayed stroke after systematic off-pump coronary artery bypass
Conclusion The incidence of stroke after systematic OPCAB was low. Early and delayed strokes were equally distributed. Stroke mechanisms were predominantly embolic. Early and delayed stroke differed in their mechanisms. Early and delayed stroke should be considered as two separate entities and different preventive strategies should be applied in future intervention.

The effect and associated factors of dispatcher recognition of stroke: A retrospective observational study
Conclusions The dispatchers should spend more time identifying stroke patients by following the dispatch protocol. Recognition of stroke by dispatchers was associated with improved stroke care.

Ischemic stroke risk in a southeastern Chinese population: Insights from 5-lipoxygenase activating protein and phosphodiesterase 4D single-nucleotide polymorphisms
Conclusion No association was found between SNPs of ALOX5AP or PDE4D and the risk of overall ischemic stroke in a southeastern Chinese population. Interactions between these two genes were not risk factors for cerebral infarction. In atherothrombotic and small-artery disease subtypes, none of the seven SNPs was associated with any stroke risk; however, the ALOX5AP gene might be related to ischemic stroke incidence in females.

A functional recovery profile for patients with stroke following post-acute rehabilitation care in Taiwan
ConclusionsThis study showed that the PAC rehabilitation unit was beneficial for patients with acute stroke who had functional impairments. The study results may call for further investigation to identify and develop better models for the delivery of rehabilitation in the stroke PAC unit.

Time cost of a nonclosing intravenous thrombolysis service for acute ischemic stroke
Conclusion Our results demonstrate a large variation in the time cost of a nonclosing service for intravenous thrombolysis. Payment based on piece-rate compensation may not be appropriate and requires improvement.

Utilization of emergency medical service increases chance of thrombolytic therapy in patients with acute ischemic stroke
Conclusion Utilization of EMS can not only help acute ischemic stroke patients in early presentation to ED, but also effectively facilitate thrombolytic therapy and shorten the onset-to-needle time.

Calycosin-7-O-β-D-glucoside reduces myocardial injury in heat stroke rats
ConclusionWe thus conclude that myocardial injury can be a pressing need for the design of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for heat stroke. In particular, our data indicate that CG protects against heat stroke in rats by mitigating myocardial injury.

Validating the diagnosis of acute ischemic stroke in a National Health Insurance claims database
Conclusion The PPV of a diagnosis of AIS in the NHI claims data was high. Using five-digit ICD-9 codes to identify AIS cases will markedly decrease the false-positive rate compared with using the commonly used three-digit method.

10-Point CT-ASPECTS-based reperfusion therapy for unknown onset stroke
Publication date: Available online 15 December 2017 Source:Journal of the Formosan Medical Association Author(s): Che-Cheng Chang, Hsu-Ling Yeh, Chen-Yu Hsiao, Li-Ming Lien Under the time-based criteria, patients with unknown onset stroke (UOS) are ineligible for reperfusion therapies. However, previous studies suggest that some patients with UOS may benefit from reperfusion. Several imaging modalities have been suggested to select patients for intervention, but the optimal imaging criteria are still controversial. Herein we present a series of four cases using 10-point CT-ASPECTS to support our decision of reperfusion th...
