Associations of erythrocyte polyunsaturated fatty acids with incidence of stroke and stroke types in adult Chinese: a prospective study of over 8000 individuals
ConclusionAmong relatively lean Chinese adults, erythrocyte PUFAs 18:2n –6, 20:3n–6 and 20:5n–3 showed different associations with risks of IS and ICH. These results would improve the understanding of stroke etiology.

Relation of dietary glycemic load with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke: a cohort study in Greece and a meta-analysis
Conclusions This study indicates that GL is an important determinant of the more common ischemic—though not of the hemorrhagic—stroke.

Adipose tissue fatty acids present in dairy fat and risk of stroke: the Danish Diet, Cancer and Health cohort
ConclusionsOur results suggest that a larger percentage in adipose tissue of fatty acids for which dairy products are a major source is associated with a lower rate of ischemic stroke.

Substitutions between potatoes and other vegetables and risk of ischemic stroke
ConclusionReplacing potatoes with fruiting vegetables was associated with a lower risk of ischemic stroke.

Association between different obesity measures and the risk of stroke in the EPIC Spanish cohort
Conclusions Data from the Spanish EPIC cohort study show a strong association of WC and WHR with the relative risk of suffering a stroke only in men, while no associations were found for BMI. It supports the suggestion of other authors of using more than one obesity index in the study of stroke risk prediction.

Vitamin D metabolites and fibroblast growth factor-23 in patients with left ventricular assist device implants: association with stroke and mortality risk
Conclusions In LVAD patients, deficient 25OHD levels are independently associated with high stroke and mortality risk. If confirmed in randomized controlled trials, preoperative correction of deficient vitamin D status could be a promising measure to reduce stroke and mortality risk in LVAD patients.

Dairy products and the risk of stroke and coronary heart disease: the Rotterdam Study
Conclusions In this long-term follow-up study of older Dutch subjects, total dairy consumption or the intake of specific dairy products was not related to the occurrence of CVD events. The observed inverse association between high-fat dairy and fatal stroke warrants confirmation in other studies.

Dietary choline and betaine; associations with subclinical markers of cardiovascular disease risk and incidence of CVD, coronary heart disease and stroke: the Jackson Heart Study
ConclusionsAmong our African-American participants, higher dietary choline intake was associated with a lower risk of incident ischemic stroke, and thus putative dietary benefits. Higher dietary betaine intake was associated with a nonlinear higher risk of incident CHD.

Serum magnesium concentration and incident cognitive impairment: the reasons for geographic and racial differences in stroke study
ConclusionsFindings from this prospective study suggest that sufficient Mg status within the normal range may be beneficial to cognitive health in the US general population.

Associations of dietary patterns with risk of incident atrial fibrillation in the REasons for Geographic And Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS)
ConclusionsWhile specific dietary patterns have been associated with AF risk factors, our findings fail to show an association between diet patterns and AF development.

Mediterranean diet and cardiovascular disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies
ConclusionsOur findings indicate and further quantify that MD exerts a protective effect on the risk of CVD. This inverse association includes CHD and ischemic stroke, but apparently not hemorrhagic stroke.

Chocolate and risk of chronic disease: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis
ConclusionChocolate consumption is not related to risk for several chronic diseases, but could have a small inverse association with CHD and stroke. Our findings are limited by very low  or low credibility of evidence, highlighting important uncertainty for chocolate–disease associations.

Association between egg consumption and cardiovascular disease events, diabetes and all-cause mortality
ConclusionsHigher egg consumption was associated with higher blood glucose in subjects with T2D and/or IGT. The increased incidence of stroke with higher egg consumption among T2D and/or IGT sub-group warrants further investigation.

Adherence to a healthy diet in relation to cardiovascular incidence and risk markers: evidence from the Caerphilly Prospective Study
ConclusionsHigher DASH and AHEI-2010 scores were associated with lower CVD and stroke risk, and favourable cardiovascular health outcomes, suggesting that encouraging middle-aged men to comply with the dietary recommendations for a healthy diet may have important implications for future vascular disease and population health.
