Association of education and feedback on hypertension management with risk for stroke and cardiovascular disease
CONCLUSIONS: This study does not support an association between education and feedback on hypertension management to primary care physicians and the risk for stroke or cardiovascular outcomes. The observed differences for mortality outcomes should be interpreted with caution.PMID:35179089 | DOI:10.1080/08037051.2022.2041393

Higher pulse pressure/stroke volume index is associated with impaired outcome in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy the LIFE study.
Authors: Mancusi C, Gerdts E, de Simone G, Midtbø H, Lønnebakken MT, Boman K, Wachtell K, Dahlöf B, Devereux RB Abstract We tested the prognostic impact of a marker of arterial stiffness, pulse pressure/stroke volume index (PP/SVi) in patients with hypertension and left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy. We used data from 866 patients randomized to losartan or atenolol-based antihypertensive treatment, over a median of 4.8 years, in the Losartan Intervention For Endpoint reduction in hypertension (LIFE) study. The association of PP/SVi with outcomes was tested in Cox regression analyses and reported as hazard ratio (...

From efficacy in trials to effectiveness in clinical practice: The Swedish Stroke Prevention Study.
Authors: Brunström M, Dahlström J, Lindholm LH, Lönnberg G, Hallström S, Norberg M, Nyström L, Persson M, Weinehall L, Carlberg B Abstract Blood pressure treatment has shown great efficacy in reducing cardiovascular events in randomized controlled trials. If this is effective in reducing cardiovascular disease in the general population, is less studied. Between 2001 and 2009 we performed an intervention to improve blood pressure control in the county of Västerbotten, using Södermanland County as a control. The intervention was directed towards primary care physicians and included lectures on blood pressure t...

The pleiotropic effect of rs7903146 on type 2 diabetes and ischemic stroke: a family-based study in a Chinese population
In conclusion, our study provided evidence that a T2D-independent path was identified out of the pleiotropic effect of rs7903146 on IS. However, further studies were needed to validate the biological mechanisms behind the pleiotropic effect and the modification by l ifestyle intervention.

Intravenous thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke due to intracranial artery dissection: a single-center case series and a review of literature
AbstractEfficacy and safety of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to intracranial artery dissection (IAD) are currently not established. We aimed to present a single-center experience on IAD-related AIS treated by IVT. We selected all consecutive patients with IAD-related AIS treated by IVT from a prospectively constructed single-center acute stroke registry from 2003 to 2017. We reviewed demographical, clinical and neuroimaging data and recorded hemorrhagic complications, mortality within 7  days and modified Rankin Scale at 3-months. Out of 181 AISs related to cervicocephalic dissections, ...
