Prognostic Value of Serum N-Terminal Pro-Brain Natriuretic Peptide Level over Heart Failure for Stroke Events and Deaths in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation.
Authors: Kuronuma K, Okumura Y, Morikawa T, Yokoyama K, Matsumoto N, Tachibana E, Oiwa K, Matsumoto M, Kojima T, Haruta H, Nomoto K, Sonoda K, Arima K, Kogawa R, Takahashi F, Kotani T, Ohkubo K, Fukushima S, Itou S, Kondo K, Chiku M, Ohno Y, Onikura M, Hirayama A, SAKURA AF Registry Investigators Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) often coexist. The aims of this study were to explore the factors associated with the serum levels of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), and the association between prognosis and a history of HF or the serum NT-proBNP level in Japanese patients wit...

Adaptive Servo-Ventilation Treatment Increases Stroke Volume in Stable Systolic Heart Failure Patients With Low Tricuspid Annular Plane Systolic Excursion.
This study aimed to clarify the interaction between the effects of ASV and right-sided heart performance in patients with stable heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).Twenty-six stable HF inpatients (left ventricular ejection fraction < 0.45, without moderate to severe mitral regurgitation (MR) were analyzed. Echocardiography was performed before and after 30 minutes of ASV. ASV increased stroke volume index (SVI) in 14 patients (30.0 ± 11.9 to 41.1 ± 16.1 mL/m(2)) and reduced SVI in 12 patients (36.0 ± 10.1 to 31.9 ± 12.2 mL/m(2)). Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that tricuspid ...

Prognostic Impact of Left Atrial Minimal Volume on Clinical Outcome in Patients with Non-Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
In conclusion, LAVmin was independently associated with increased risk of HF, stroke, or mortality in patients with HCM and was superior to LAVmax in predicting clinical outcome in this population. PMID: 30158386 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The Effect of a Cancer History on Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
Int Heart J. 2021 Mar 17. doi: 10.1536/ihj.20-452. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe effect of a history of cancer on the prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is poorly understood. From the Osaka Acute Coronary Insufficiency Study (OACIS) registry in Osaka, Japan, we enrolled the case data of a total of 3499 patients with AMI treated with PCI between 1998 and 2014, of whom 462 had a cancer history (cancer group, 13.2%) and 3037 did not (non-cancer group, 86.8%). All of the cases were followed for up to five years from discharge. The Kaplan-Meier curve and...
