Screening for Asymptomatic Atrial Fibrillation While Monitoring the Blood Pressure at Home: Trial of Regular Versus Irregular Pulse for Prevention of Stroke (TRIPPS 2.0)
In conclusion, home screening for asymptomatic AF while taking BP measurements can be performed accurately. This can be used to detect new AF, allowing treatment with anticoagulation to reduce the future risk for stroke.

Risk of Stroke in Older Adults With Heart Failure
Heart failure (HF) is a risk factor for incident stroke. However, less is known about the independent nature of this association and to what extent various baseline characteristics may mediate this risk. Of the 5,795 community-dwelling adults aged ≥65 years in the Cardiovascular Health Study, 5,448 were free of baseline stroke, of whom 229 had baseline HF. We used a multivariable-adjusted Cox regression model to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for centrally adjudicated incident stroke associated with HF.

The CHA2DS2-VASc Score for Risk Stratification of Stroke in Heart Failure With-vs-Without Atrial Fibrillation
A recent study suggested that the CHA2DS2-VASc score can risk stratify heart failure (HF) patients without atrial fibrillation (AF) for stroke. We performed a retrospective analysis using the national Veteran Affairs database to externally validate the findings. Crude incidence rates of end points were calculated. Atrial Myopathy and Ischemic Stroke in Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction
We examined the hypothesis that atrial myopathy may be associated with ischemic stroke in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. This is an exploratory, post hoc analysis of the Treatment of Preserved Cardiac Function Heart Failure with an Aldosterone Antagonist (TOPCAT) trial. Prediction of Incident Atrial Fibrillation According to Gender in Patients with Ischemic Stroke From a Nationwide Cohort
The CHA2DS2-VASc score may identify patients at higher risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) following ischemic stroke (IS) among patients without known AF. Stroke and Systemic Embolism and other Adverse Outcomes of Heart Failure with Preserved and Reduced Ejection Fraction in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation (From the COmparison study of Drugs for symptom control and complication prEvention of Atrial Fibrillation CODE-AF)
It is unknown whether heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) carry a similar risk of stroke or systemic embolism (SE) and other outcomes in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF). A prospective, multicenter outpatient registry with echocardiographic data which enrolled 10,589 patients from June 2016 to May 2019 was analyzed. In this registry, 935 (8.8%) patients had HF, and the proportions of patients with HFpEF and HFrEF were 43.2% and 56.8%, respectively.

Risk of Sudden Death and Outcome in Patients With Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy With Benign Presentation and Without Risk Factors
In conclusion, in patients with HC without conventional risk factors and with no or mild symptoms, the risk of sudden death was not negligible, with an event rate of 0.6% per year. Heart failure and stroke-related death were less common and largely confined to older patients. These results underscore the need for a more accurate assessment of the sudden death risk in patients with HC.

Anticoagulant Agents for Atrial Fibrillation in Cancer Patients
In a recent article in the journal, Patell et  al1 found CHADS2 (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥ 75, diabetes mellitus, prior stroke/transient ischemic attack/thromboembolism) and CHA2DS2VASC (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥ 75, diabetes mellitus, prior stroke/transient ischemic attack/thromboembolism, vascular disease, age 65-74, sex category [i.e., female]) to predict risk of ischemic stroke in cancer patients with baseline atrial fibrillation (AF). Although only 36% of patients received anticoagulant therapy, the risk of stroke generally appeared to be lower than in cancer-free individuals.
