Artificial intelligence-enabled retinal vasculometry for prediction of circulatory mortality, myocardial infarction and stroke
CONCLUSION: RV offers an alternative predictive biomarker to traditional risk-scores for vascular health, without the need for blood sampling or blood pressure measurement. Further work is needed to examine RV in population screening to triage individuals at high-risk.PMID:36195457 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2022-321842

Risks of posterior segment ocular ischaemic events in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: a population-based cohort study in Taiwan
CONCLUSIONS: SLE increases the risk of developing OIE. Systemic comorbidities and higher dosage of steroid in patients with SLE are associated with severe ocular ischaemic complications.PMID:35922126 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2022-321653

Nationwide trends in emergency department utilisation for acute retinal ischaemia in the USA, 2011-2018
CONCLUSION: Of the estimated 48 000 patients with TMVL or RAO annually in the USA, few are evaluated in the ED, and admission rates are less than for transient ischaemic attack or ischaemic stroke and are decreasing over time.PMID:35760457 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2022-321418

Ocular and systemic determinants of perifoveal and macular vessel parameters in healthy African Americans
CONCLUSIONS: When interpreting OCTA images in a clinical setting, it is important to consider the effects ocular and systemic characteristics may have on the macular microcirculation.PMID:34740885 | DOI:10.1136/bjophthalmol-2021-319675

Safety of 5914 intravitreal ziv-aflibercept injections.
CONCLUSION: This constitutes the largest pooled safety report on IVZ use and includes patients from 14 centres distributed across the globe. It shows that IVZ has an acceptable ocular and systemic safety profile with incidences of adverse events similar to those of other vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitory drugs. The analysis supports the continued use of IVZ in various retinal disorders. PMID: 30099379 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
