Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 390: Sigma-1 Receptor Activation Improves Oligodendrogenesis and Promotes White-Matter Integrity after Stroke in Mice with Diabetic Mellitus
In this study, C57BL/6 mice were treated with high-fat diets (HFDs) combined with streptozotocin (STZ) injection to mimic type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Focal cerebral ischemia in T2DM mice was established via injection of the vasoconstrictor peptide endothelin-1 (ET-1) into the hippocampus. Three different treatment plans were used in this study. In one plan, 1 mg/kg of PRE084 (intraperitoneally) was administered for 7 d before ET-1 injection; the mice were sacrificed 24 h after ET-1 injection. In another plan, PRE084 treatment was initiated 24 h after ET-1 injection and lasted for 7 d. In the third plan, PRE084 treatme...

Molecules, Vol. 26, Pages 302: Protective Effects of Polyphenol Enriched Complex Plants Extract on Metabolic Dysfunctions Associated with Obesity and Related Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Diseases in High Fat Diet-Induced C57BL/6 Mice
Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrated that the herbal complex is an effective herbal formulation in the attenuation of obesity and obesity-induced metabolic dysfunction including NAFLD in HFD-induced mouse model.

Inhibition of the CD36 receptor reduces visceral fat accumulation and improves insulin resistance in obese mice carrying the BDNF-Val66Met variant Metabolism
This study addressed the effect of genetic variability in developing obesity and the efficacy of the inhibition of cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36), a multifunctional receptor implicated in obesity and insulin resistance, in WT mice and mice with the BDNF Val66Met variant. CD36 inhibition by salvionolic acid B (SAB) in diet-induced obese WT mice reduced visceral fat accumulation and improved insulin resistance. The benefit of SAB was abrogated in CD36 knockout mice, showing the specificity of SAB. In addition, mice with the Val66Met variant in both alleles (BDNFM/M) fed a high-fat diet exhibited extreme obesity with in...
