Gastrointestinal bleeding is a clinically important complication in acute ischemic stroke patients after dual antiplatelet therapy. The present study was to explore the association between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and in-hospital gastrointestinal bleeding in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients who had received dual antiplatelet therapy.

Mobile point-of-care MRI demonstration of a normal volunteer in a telemedicine-equipped ambulance
Several centers have implemented ambulances equipped with CT scanners and telemedicine capabilities, known as mobile stroke units (MSU), to expedite acute stroke care delivery in the pre-hospital setting. While MSUs have been shown to improve outcomes compared with standard emergency medical management, there are limitations to incorporating CT, including radiation exposure to emergency medical services personnel. Recently, a portable, low-field strength MRI (Swoop ®, Hyperfine, Inc., Guilford, CT) received FDA clearance for in-hospital use.

Dysphagia after ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke: A propensity-matched 20-year analysis of the national inpatient sample
Post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) is a common and debilitating complication of acute stroke associated with increased mortality and morbidity.1,2 Globally, 12.2 million strokes occur every year and 1 in 4 adults over the age of 25 will have a stroke within their lifetime.3 Of these, 87% of strokes are considered ischemic strokes (AIS) and 10% are hemorrhagic (ICH), both of which are associated with dysphagia as an adverse event.4 Recent studies have found that the prevalence of long-term PSD ranges from 42-50% and was an independent risk factor for prolonged hospital stay, institutionalization after discharge, poorer functional ...

Associations between early in-hospital medications and the development of delirium in patients with stroke
Patients hospitalized with stroke develop delirium at higher rates than general hospitalized patients. While several medications are associated with existing delirium, it is unknown whether early medication exposures are associated with subsequent delirium in patients with stroke. Additionally, it is unknown whether delirium identification is associated with changes in the prescription of these medications.

Disparities in transitions of acute stroke care: The transitions of care stroke disparities study methodological report
Despite successful stroke therapies, women, minority, and other disadvantaged populations continue to experience a disproportionate burden of stroke and poor outcomes after stroke.1,2 Hospital based quality improvement stroke programs have demonstrated greater adherence to evidence-based stroke care recommendations. However, it is less evident if the implementation of these programs minimizes race-ethnic, sex and geographic disparities in stroke care post hospitalization. About 25% of discharged stroke patients are readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of initial event.

Hospital Discharge and Readmissions Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic for California Acute Stroke Inpatients
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States, with approximately 795,000 new strokes occurring annually, including acute ischemic stroke (AIS), intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).1 The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted all levels of care for stroke patients, such as delays in initial presentation, reduction in acute therapies, limitations of in-patient resources, delays or lack of initiation of secondary stroke prevention therapy, and limitations in rehabilitation services after hospital discharge.

Social and health determinants related to adverse short-term outcomes after a first-ever stroke in adults younger than 65 years
Stroke-related mortality and disability-adjusted life years in adults younger than 65 have increased over the last decade. However, geographical differences in distributing these outcomes could reflect dissimilarity in determinants. Therefore, this cross-sectional study of secondary data from Chilean hospitals aims to analyze the association of sociodemographic and clinical factors with in-hospital case-fatality risk or acquired neurologic deficits (adverse outcomes) in inpatients aged 18 to 64 who experienced their first-ever stroke.
