Low dietary sodium potentially mediates COVID-19 prevention associated with whole food plant-based diets
This article presents evidence that low dietary sodium potentially mediates the association of plant-based diets with COVID-19 prevention. Processed meats and poultry injected with sodium chloride contribute considerable amounts of dietary sodium in the Western diet, and the avoidance or reduction of these and other processed foods in whole food plant-based diets could help lower overall dietary sodium intake. Moreover, high amounts of potassium in plant-based diets increase urinary sodium excretion, and preagricultural diets high in plant-based foods were estimated to contain much lower ratios of dietary sodium to potassi...

Ditching masks at a stroke is too much too soon
Responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement ending rules requiring face coverings in enclosed public spaces, UNISON assistant general secretary Jon Richards said today (Monday): “This isn’t the time to throw caution to the wind, especially with infections on the rise. The economy is important, but so is public confidence. “These hasty changes will create a confusing cocktail of guidance. The public will be expected to know how to react to each and every situation they face. “Pressure is already building on ambulance and other NHS services, and that’s before safety measures are ditched. It’s just to...

Things I know to be true 1 – We are all walking miracles
Back when I was child I genuinely believed that when my mother kissed my knee to make it better, she did actually do that. And as I grew older although that belief faded away in the light of the obvious ‘fact’ of the medical model, it never truly disappeared. Time and again I would reflect on what it meant to be healthy and when my own health challenges began in my mid-teens, some part of me always knew that my mother’s kiss held meaning. I remember being 16 years old and just about to sit ‘O’ levels, as they were then. I had been having a period for what must have been weeks and I was tired a...

Overlooked Virus Killer
Sales of vitamin C supplements have tripled in the last few weeks… And the most powerful kind of vitamin C is sold out on Amazon. (More on that in a minute.) I’m glad to see people turning to vitamin C. But the the chewable form you usually find at the drugstore won’t give you the boost you’re looking for. You see, absorption — or bioavailability — is an issue, and your body can only absorb about 500 mg of this conventional form of vitamin C before you hit saturation. And that’s nowhere near enough. In a moment I’ll show you a better form of vitamin C… and how you can take ...
