Health-related quality of life after ischemic stroke: impact of sociodemographic and clinical factors
CONCLUSION: Stroke survivors have significantly reduced HR-QoL. Multiple interacting factors are associated with an unfavorable outcome after IS. Early detection of these factors would help to improve the care for IS patients, to reduce disabilities and improve HR-QoL.PMID:33637026 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2021.1893563

Thrombolysis with rhPro-UK 3 to 6 hours after embolic stroke in rat.
Conclusions: RhPro-UK had an obvious therapeutic effect on ischemic stroke caused by thrombosis, and could be started within 4.5 h TTW with less side effects of cerebral hemorrhage than that of UK. PMID: 31584350 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Risk of hemorrhagic transformation after ischemic stroke in patients with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.
CONCLUSION: APS is an independent risk factor for hemorrhagic transformation in both thrombolytic and non-thrombolytic treated patients. APS is also associated with longer length and cost of hospital stay. Further research is warranted to identify the unique risk factors in these patients to identify strategies to reduce the risk of hemorrhagic transformation in this subgroup of the population. Thrombolytic treatment decreases glutamate/GABA ratio in serum during acute ischaemic stroke: a pilot study.
Authors: Kurzepa J, Szpetnar M, Hordyjewska A, Wątroba S, Gołąb P, Boguszewska-Czubara A Abstract There is no information about possible effect of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) therapy on excitotoxic/neuroprotective amino acids during acute phase of ischaemic stroke (IS). Our purpose was to evaluate iv thrombolytic treatment on glutamate (Glu) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) serum levels during acute IS. Eleven thrombolytic (rtPA group) and 12 non-thrombolytic (non-rtPA group) patients with acute IS were enrolled. The serum samples were obtained at three time-points for rtPA group (time-poin...

Weight loss: indication of brain damage and effect of combined normobaric oxygen and ethanol therapy after stroke.
DISCUSSION: Degree of weight loss after stroke is largely associated with severity of infarction as well as damage reduction after treatment administration. PMID: 25819503 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Factors impact the adherence rate of prophylaxis for deep venous thrombosis in acute ischaemic stroke patients: an analysis of the China National Stroke Registry.
We examined the factors that impact the adherence rate of DVT prophylaxis in stroke patients from the China National Stroke Registry (CNSR). METHOD: Records of 12 173 acute ischaemic stroke patients with follow-up admitted to 132 hospitals in CNSR from September 1, 2007 to August 30, 2008 were reviewed. Data from 4643 patients eligible for DVT prophylaxis were analysed. Generalised estimating equations were used to identify the patient's and hospital's factors that impact the practice of DVT prophylaxis. RESULTS: Among 4643 acute ischaemic stroke patients eligible for DVT prophylaxis, the overall adherence rate of ...

A comparison of rt-PA thrombolysis guidelines between China and the USA: are changes needed?
CONCLUSIONS: Onset to IV time is critical for reducing mortality and improving favorable outcomes. We suggest Chinese acute ischemic stroke treatment guidelines be revised to include an increase in the age limit of 80 years, removing contraindications such as a history of previous sever heart, liver, and kidney dysfunction, and placing more emphasis on physician expertise. The effect of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator on MMP-2 and MMP-9 activities in vitro.
In conclusion, this study showed that rtPA can increase the biological activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 on posttranslational level. PMID: 24963695 [PubMed - in process]
