Effects of transcranial direct current stimulation on lower limb function, balance and quality of life after stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
DISCUSSION: There is a lack of evidence in recommending the use of tDCS in isolation in the treatment of patients after stroke, aiming at improving motor function, balance and quality of life. However, it is possible that tDCS can be beneficial when associated with other therapies or interventions.PMID:37183510 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2211457

Factors influencing recurrence after an ischemic stroke vary by sex
We examined relative factors associated with recurrent stroke in Chinese patients with first-ever ischemic stroke. LASSO (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) Cox regression were used to determine the predictors of recurrent stroke in the male and female groups. Next, We used Kaplan-Meier survival curves and interactions among these predictors to assess the association between relapse-related factors and recurrent stroke.RESULTS: During one year of follow-up, we documented 42 incidents of recurrent stroke in males and 15 in females. There was no significant difference in the overall recurrence rate between men ...

The association of stroke risk factors with the future thickness of carotid atherosclerotic plaques
DISCUSSION: The effect of each predictor on plaque thickness is complicated by interactions with other risk factors, particularly for the left carotid artery. The side of carotid artery involvement should be considered for stroke prevention.PMID:37125820 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2208484

Elevated levels of total homocysteine after ischemic stroke: a potential marker for in-hospital outcomes
CONCLUSION: HHcy was associated with increased in-hospital stroke recurrence and CVD events among patients with IS. In low-folate regions, tHcy levels may potentially predict in-hospital outcomes after IS.PMID:36893016 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2022.2159137
