Risk factors between intracranial-extracranial atherosclerosis and anterior-posterior circulation stroke in ischaemic stroke.

Frequency and risk factors of spontaneous hemorrhagic transformation following ischemic stroke on the initial brain CT or MRI: data from the China National Stroke Registry (CNSR).
DISCUSSION: Spontaneous HT occurred in 0.92% of the patients with IS in the acute stage. Being female, excess alcohol consumption, atrial fibrillation, and a prolonged period between IS onset and initial imaging were associated with an increased risk of spontaneous HT. Wall characteristics and mechanisms of ischaemic stroke in patients with atherosclerotic middle cerebral artery stenosis: a high-resolution MRI study.
CONCLUSIONS: PR or irregular surface plaques were associated with artery-to-artery embolism. Superior location of plaques was associated with PAI. Local cerebral hypothermia induced by selective infusion of cold lactated ringer's: a feasibility study in rhesus monkeys.
CONCLUSION: Local infusion of ice-cold lactated Ringer's solution via micro-catheter is a safe and effective method for selective cerebral hypothermia. This cooling method could potentially be developed as a new treatment in acute ischemic stroke. PMID: 27320250 [PubMed - in process]

Association of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio with silent brain infarcts in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether the inflammation as measured by increased platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) predispose to silent infarcts in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). METHODS: The present study investigated a total of 48 new diagnosed patients with PAF who had no signs of stroke. PLR, which was calculated as the ratio of the platelet count to the lymphocyte count, C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were measured due to evaluate inflammatory state.
