Publication date: Available online 17 August 2018Source: Journal of Clinical NeuroscienceAuthor(s): Canhui Tian, Zhong Ji, Wei Xiang, Xiaomei Huang, Shengnan Wang, Yongmin Wu, Suyue Pan, Liang Zhou, Zhen DengAbstractEarly neurological improvement (ENI) after thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke is associated with a favorable long-term outcome. With the goal to evaluate ENI, we aimed to investigate whether ENI bears a relationship with routine blood tests before thrombolysis. Hypertrophic olivary degeneration after cerebellar hemorrhage
We present a striking example of hypertrophic olivary degeneration after cerebellar hemorrhage. This case highlights some important teaching points: unique response of the inferior olivary nucleus to de-afferentation, anatomy of Mollaret’s triangle and clinical manifestations of disruption in Mollaret’s triangle. The purpose of this teaching case is to highlight a rare but important post-stroke complication.

Rapid access point of care clinic for transient ischemic attacks and minor strokes
We present 24months of prospective data from a new model of care for transient ischemic attacks (TIA) and minor stroke, established at the Royal North Shore Hospital, a tertiary teaching hospital in Sydney, Australia. Prior to 2011, approximately 200 patients were admitted to our emergency department (ED) annually, following presentation with a suspected TIA. These patients had an average length of stay of 5.3days. Following the establishment of a twice weekly multidisciplinary, one stop, stroke prevention and hospital avoidance clinic, all patients with suspected TIA were investigated and treated as outpatients. There was...
