Risk factors for ischemic stroke post bone fracture
Publication date: Available online 7 November 2018Source: Journal of Clinical NeuroscienceAuthor(s): Qi An, Zhe Chen, Kang Huo, Hua Su, Qiu-Min QuAbstractStroke is one of the most devastating complications after bone fracture. However, due to the rarity of the complication, the risk factor for post fracture stroke remains unknown. We retrospectively reviewed 2914 fractured adults referred to the first affiliated hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, a regional referral center of China, from January 2008 to May 2013. As a result, among the 2914 patients, 13 of them had newly onset stroke within a median of 4 days after...

Predictive value of plasma matrix metalloproteinase-9 concentrations for spontaneous haemorrhagic transformation in patients with acute ischaemic stroke: A cohort study in Chinese patients
Publication date: Available online 2 October 2018Source: Journal of Clinical NeuroscienceAuthor(s): Ruozhen Yuan, Song Tan, Deren Wang, Simiao Wu, Xinhui Cao, Shihong Zhang, Bo Wu, Ming LiuAbstractWhether matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) concentrations in plasma predict risk of spontaneous haemorrhagic transformation (sHT) in acute ischaemic stroke is unclear. From 1 March 2003 to 27 February 2006, patients with acute ischaemic stroke admitted to West China Hospital within 24 h of onset and healthy controls were enrolled and blood samples obtained. Plasma MMP-9 concentrations were determined using enzyme-linked immunos...

Genetic diagnosis of CADASIL in three Hong Kong Chinese patients: A novel mutation within the intracellular domain of NOTCH3
We report here the clinical and molecular findings of three unrelated Hong Kong Chinese families with CADASIL syndrome. Sanger sequencing of genomic DNA revealed a novel heterozygous variant NM_000435.2(NOTCH3):c.[5903_5904insATAA];[5903_5904=] NP_000426.2:p.(Asp1969∗);(Asp1969=) and two previously reported heterozygous mutations NM_000435.2(NOTCH3):c.[328C>T];[328C=] NP_000426.2:p.[(Arg110Cys)];[(Arg110=)] and NM_000435.2(NOTCH3):c.[580T>A];[580T=] NP_000426.2:p.(Cys194Ser);(Cys194=) in the three families respectively. Molecular basis of CADASIL in these three patients were further established. Genetic analysis provides...

Modified CHADS2 and CHA2DS2-VASc scores to predict atrial fibrillation in acute ischemic stroke patients
Publication date: Available online 23 February 2018 Source:Journal of Clinical Neuroscience Author(s): Rixia Liu, Xiaomeng Yang, Shuya Li, Yong Jiang, Yilong Wang, Yongjun Wang It is important to identify candidates who warrant extended cardiac monitoring after ischemic stroke. We investigated the predictive performance of the CHADS2 and CHA2DS2-VASc scores for previously unknown atrial fibrillation during in-hospital electrocardiographic monitoring. Patients were selected from a prospective trial in China. The clinical prediction of the scores was examined using the C statistic. Multivariate logistic regressions were per...
