A rare case of right ventricular myxoma causing recurrent stroke
We present a 62-year-old lady admitted in our hospital with two episodes of acute ischemic stroke about 2 weeks apart. She was evaluated for acute ischemic stroke and was thrombolysed for recent stroke in right MCA territory first time. On further evaluation, she was found to have a RVOT mass. A transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiogram revealed a PFO and a large, 5.1cm×2.3cm, ovoid, well circumscribed, echogenic mass in the right ventricle outflow tract attached by small pedicle to the ventricular side of anterior tricuspid leaflet, partly obstructing the right ventricular outflow tract and protruding through the ...

The Indian consensus guidance on stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation: An emphasis on practical use of nonvitamin K oral anticoagulants
Publication date: December 2015 Source:Indian Heart Journal, Volume 67, Supplement 2 Author(s): Jamshed Dalal, Abhay Bhave, Abraham Oomman, Amit Vora, Anil Saxena, Dhiman Kahali, Fali Poncha, D.S. Gambhir, Jaydip Ray Chaudhuri, Nakul Sinha, Saumitra Ray, S.S. Iyengar, Suvro Banerjee, Upendra Kaul The last ten years have seen rapid strides in the evolution of nonvitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs) for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). For the preparation of this consensus, a comprehensive literature search was performed and data on available trials, subpopulation analyses, and ca...

Cardiovascular risk profile and management of atrial fibrillation in India: Real world data from RealiseAF survey
Conclusion AF in India is not adequately controlled. Concomitant CV risk factors and risk of stroke are high. The study underscores the need for improved adoption of guideline-directed management for optimal control of AF and reducing the risk of stroke.

Bilateral spontaneous internal carotid artery dissection managed with endovascular stenting – A case report
We describe a patient with ischemic stroke from spontaneous bilateral ICAD with completely occluded left ICA. Having failed medical therapy with antiplatelets and anticoagulants due to extensive loss of carotid vascular supply, he was managed successfully with endovascular stenting with good neurological recovery.

Risk profiles and One-year outcomes of patients with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation in India: Insights from the GARFIELD-AF Registry
ConclusionCompared to previously published registries from India, GARFIELD-AF registry describes clinical profiles and outcomes in Indian patients with AF of a different etiology. The registry data shows that compared to the rest of the world, Indian AF patients are younger with more diabetes and CAD. Patients with a higher stroke risk are more likely to receive anticoagulation therapy with VKA but are under-dosed compared with the global average in GARFIELD-AF.

High versus Low dose Statin Therapy in Indian Patients with Acute ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Undergoing Thrombolysis
Conclusions High-dose atorvastatin did not show significant difference of MACEs in STEMI patients undergoing thrombolysis but showed significant improvement in immediate coronary flow depicted by ST-segment resolution. This benefit of high dose statin is to be weighed against greater myalgia, drug discontinuation and cost in Indian patients.

Open-labeled randomized controlled trial to evaluate the 1-year clinical outcomes of polymer-free sirolimus-eluting coronary stents as compared with biodegradable polymer-based sirolimus-eluting coronary stents
ConclusionThe 1 year MACE rates are comparable in patients who underwent elective coronary revascularization using sirolimus eluting polymer-free and biodegradable polymer stents.

Short- and Long-Term Follow-up of Antithrombotic Management Patterns in Patients Hospitalized with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS): Indian Subgroup of EPICOR-Asia Study
ConclusionThis study showed a gap between international recommendations and implementation for managing ACS in Indian patients.. Most of the patients prefer to undergo invasive management instead of noninvasive therapy.. At the end of 2-year follow up more than half of the population were receiving DAPT, with most patients on receiving a combination of aspirin and clopidogrel The mortality along with composite events of death, MI, or ischemic stroke was highest for NSTEMI patients.
