Study regarding the effectiveness of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on spasticity
Discussion – conclusion The limits of the study are given by the small number of patients included, a lack of a medium and long-term assessment of the therapeutic effect evaluation and the absence of a placebo controlled group.

Role of the continuous infusion test with an external pump for intrathecal baclofen in post-stroke spastic ambulatory patients
Discussion – conclusion Our pilot study showed that the continuous infusion test might be useful in order to evaluate the effect of different ITB doses in walking ability, helping the prediction of the appropriate candidates for ITB implantation.

The outcomes of stroke patients in health territory
This study conduces us developing a repertoire of stroke patients and sharing follow-up consultations between the different operators on the heath territory. It is extended to the neighboring territory, around the Narbonne hospital, linked with the Perpignan one, into a hospital association (GHT).

Therapeutic patient education and post-stroke cognitive-behavioral disorders: Inputs for patients, caregivers and professionals in rehabilitation units
Discussion – conclusion Participation and satisfaction rates for patients and caregivers show that TEP has met their expectations. A clear positioning is defined for the caregiver, target of TEP on CBD. Measured burden is low, but Zarit scale may reduce the objective component of burden. Awareness of CBD and decrease in anosognosia may explain the lack of improvement in the quality of life measured by EuroQol. TEP approach has changed professionals practice through their positioning in the patient-professional and caregiver-professional relationship and their collaboration between professionals. Our ultimate goal is to w...

Effect of subtypes of neglect on functional outcome in stroke patients
Conclusions Our data confirm the negative prognostic effect of neglect on functional outcome in a large sample. We also show the importance of evaluating and training according to neglect subtype to improve functional independence.

Transcranial direct current stimulation over multiple days enhances motor performance of a grip task
Conclusions Anodal tDCS is effective in promoting grip motor learning in healthy individuals. Further studies are warranted to test its potential use for the rehabilitation of fine motor skills in stroke patients.

Assessment of sexual function in women with neurological disorders: A review
Conclusion Despite high prevalence rates and important clinical implications, sexual dysfunction is not systematically assessed in women presenting various neurological conditions. Several well-validated tools exist for such assessments, which could be used for sexual rehabilitation in these patients. The implementation of systematic assessments of sexual potential is feasible and renewed efforts should be made to do so in clinical practice.

Effect of visuospatial neglect on spatial navigation and heading after stroke
Conclusion The ipsilesional bias arising from VSN influences the modulation of heading in response to obstacles and, along with the adoption of the “riskier” strategies, contribute to the higher number colliders and poor goal-directed walking abilities in stroke survivors with VSN. Future research should focus on developing assessment and training tools for complex locomotor tasks such as obstacle avoidance in this population.

Changes in transcranial magnetic stimulation outcome measures in response to upper-limb physical training in stroke: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials
Conclusions The current evidence encourages the use of TMS outcome measures, especially MEP latency and map area to investigate plastic changes in the brain after upper-limb physical training post-stroke. However, more studies involving rigorous and standardized TMS procedures are needed to validate these observations.

Return to drive after non-evolutive brain damage: French recommendations
Publication date: Available online 19 May 2017 Source:Annals of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Author(s): Anne-Claire D’apolito, Jean-Luc Leguiet, Michel Enjalbert, Francis Lemoine, Jean-Michel Mazaux Return to drive after brain damage is a crucial question either for patients than health professionals. The Société française de medicine physique et de réadaptation (SOFMER) and Comète France association developed recommandations for patient's identification, evaluation and accompaniment as part of their project to resume to drive. The place of rehabilitation process and patient's focus has been also discussed....

Patellar tendon vibration reduces the increased facilitation from quadriceps to soleus in post-stroke hemiparetic individuals
Conclusions Patellar tendon vibration can reduce the facilitation between knee and ankle extensors, which suggests effective presynaptic inhibition but decreased post-activation depression in the lower limb of people after chronic hemiparetic stroke. Further studies are warranted to determine whether such vibration could be used to reduce the abnormal extension synergy of knee and ankle extensors in people after hemiparetic stroke.

Cognitive, emotional, and neural benefits of musical leisure activities in aging and neurological rehabilitation: A critical review
Publication date: Available online 29 April 2017 Source:Annals of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Author(s): Teppo Särkämö Music has the capacity to engage auditory, cognitive, motor, and emotional functions across cortical and subcortical brain regions and is relatively preserved in aging and dementia. Thus, music is a promising tool in the rehabilitation of aging-related neurological illnesses, such as stroke and Alzheimer disease. As the population ages and the incidence and prevalence of these illnesses rapidly increases, music-based interventions that are enjoyable and effective in the everyday care of the pa...
