Abstract 4: Variation in Published Stroke Rates Results in Wide Variation in the Net Clinical Benefit of Anticoagulation for Atrial Fibrillation Session Title: QCOR 2018 Young Investigator Award Finalists
Conclusion: Using current guidelines, variation in published off-anticoagulation stroke rates results in tenfold variation in the estimated net clinical benefit of anticoagulation. Guidelines should better reflect the uncertainty of the current approach that uses a CHA2DS2-VASc threshold to recommend anticoagulation.

Abstract 121: Anxiety and Depression in Patients With Fibromuscular Dysplasia: A Report From the US Registry for Fibromuscular Dysplasia Session Title: Poster Session AM
Conclusions: More than 1/3 of patients in the FMD registry had A, D, or both, and these patients showed multiple differences compared to patients without A/D. More study is required to understand this relationship. Given the high prevalence of A/D in this population, FMD patients should be screened for the presence of A/D and offered appropriate treatment.

Conclusions: The preliminary results showed the rural hospital providers saw value in the RESOLVE tool while discussing the risks and benefits with patient/family. Future strategies would include process changes to expedite the faxing of the RESOLVE tool.

Conclusion: In a representative assessment of coronary angiography and PCI outcomes, some major complications are higher that those reported in international literature. Significant access site bleeding was low, likely explained by the high prevalence of radial procedures. Future iterations of the patient information sheet and consent form may be improved by providing personalized risks.

Abstract 246: Length of Stay and Its Association With Get With the Guidelines-stroke Award Recognition Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: This study demonstrated that GWTG-Stroke award winning hospitals have a shorter ALOS for ICH and a higher ALOS for SAH than non-award winning hospitals. Those hospitals that have attained gold award status more closely align with national ALOS. Thus, hospitals that are more adherent to guideline recommended care via a quality improvement program may be more efficient when providing care, which impacts hospitals costs.

Abstract 072: Impact of Chronic Diabetes on Periprocedural Outcomes Among Patient With Atrial Fibrillation and Flutter Who Underwent Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation Therapy (RFA). Report From the NIS 2014. Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: RFA has a similar procedural safety in diabetics when compared to non-diabetic patients. It remains a safe procedure in diabetics with drug-refractory atrial fibrillation and flutter. Renal failure, CHF, type of Insurance, hospital location and teaching status are predictors of complications after RFA.

Abstract 140: Effects of Smoking Co-Morbidities and Obesity on NonHemorrhagic Stroke Outcomes Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: Smokers present with non-hemorrhagic stroke at a significantly younger age than non-smokers and die at much younger age during follow-up. While in our cohort smoking was not linked to other traditional risk factors for non-hemorrhagic stroke, it was associated with increased mortality in patients with decreased BMI, dyslipidemia, and with renal disease. "Protective" effect of increased BMI was not observed in smokers.

Characteristics and Outcomes of Stroke Patients Transferred to Hospitals Participating in the Michigan Coverdell Acute Stroke Registry Original Articles
Conclusions— Transferred patients represent a complex admixture of patient characteristics that result in higher risks of poor outcomes. Our results suggest that it is prudent to account for patient transfer status when comparing hospital outcomes and that stroke registries need to expand their data collection capacity to provide a better understanding of the relative benefits and risks of transferring patients.

Abstract 6: Treatment Effect of Clopidogrel Plus Aspirin Within 12 Hours of Acute Minor Stroke or TIA Session Title: Abstract Oral Session: Outcomes
Conclusions: Among patients treated within 12 hours, the combination of clopidogrel and aspirin was more effective than aspirin alone in reducing the risk of recurrent ischemic stroke during the 90-day follow-up and did not increase the hemorrhagic risk. Conclusions: In contrast to the general heart failure population, most patients with DT-LVAD die in the hospital and very few enroll in hospice. Conclusion: Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation exercises are very effective in generating voluntary control and improving functional activities of daily living if given from the first day of stroke. For improvement in arm function the intervention should be started first from scapula. Abstract 202: Predictors of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy in Intracerebral Hemorrhage Session Title: Abstract Poster Session II
Conclusions: We identified several independent early predictors of PEG placement in ICH. Early identification of ICH patients who will require PEG placement could result in reduced resource utilization, quicker initiation of rehabilitation, shorter hospital length of stay, and reduction of preventable complications. Prospective studies are required to determine optimal patient selection and timing for PEG placement.
