Abstract 211: Implications of the PEGASUS-TIMI 54 Trial for U.S. Clinical Practice Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: In contemporary clinical practice, a minority of patients are on a P2Y12inhibitor beyond 1-year post-MI. Applying PEGASUS trial findings to clinical practice would result in a large increase in P2Y12 inhibitor use with a cost per ischemic event averted that is strongly influenced by the choice of therapy.

Abstract 236: Coronary Artery Procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory After Overnight Call: Are Patients at Higher Risk? Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: There were greater procedural complications when performed post-call compared to no post-call; however, when adjusting for significant baseline variables, there was no significant difference seen between groups. Taking into consideration factors that contributed to procedural complications most likely will improve patient outcomes.

Abstract 159: Evaluation of Clinical Outcomes among Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation Patients Treated With Warfarin or Rivaroxaban Stratified by Presence or Absence of CKD in a Claims Database Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: This study suggests that, in an adult population with NVAF, rivaroxaban-treated patients had fewer ischemic strokes across all patients, including patients with renal impairment. Rivaroxaban-treated patients also had significantly better outcomes for the composite (VTE, MI, or stroke) measure across all groups. Bleeding rates were comparable across all groups.

Conclusions— In this large, prospective cohort, laparoscopically confirmed endometriosis was associated with increased risk of CHD. The association was strongest among young women. Hysterectomy/oophorectomy was associated with higher risk of CHD and could partially explain the association between endometriosis and CHD.

Conclusions: While patients remained on their first statin (or ezetimibe) therapy for a substantial period of time, a large proportion of patients eventually discontinue therapy. Overall, adherence was high, indicating that ASCVD patients are compliant with their LLT. Interventions and new treatments to improve lipid lowering therapy seem necessary in patients with ASCVD.

Conclusion: Routine hospital health literacy screening did not improve risk of MACE. Selective health literacy screening was associated with lower 1-year readmission risk compared with hospitals that never screened. Studies are needed to elicit how inpatient health literacy screening can improve patient transition of care.

Conclusions— Only half of Medicare-insured patients with AMI were enrolled in Part D by hospital discharge, and their 30-day and 1-year adjusted outcomes did not differ substantially from nonenrollees. There remain opportunities for improvement in medication adherence among patients with prescription drug coverage.

Smoking Paradox in Patients Hospitalized With Coronary Artery Disease or Acute Ischemic Stroke: Findings From Get With The Guidelines Original Articles
Conclusions— Among patients hospitalized with CAD and AIS, smoking is a risk factor for early age of onset, even among those with few vascular risk factors. The persistent association with lower in-hospital mortality after adjusted and stratified analyses probably represents residual unmeasured confounding, although a biological effect of smoking cannot be excluded. Further clinical and prospective population-based studies are needed to explore variables that contribute to outcomes in these patients.
