Difference in acute and chronic stage ischemic stroke metabolic markers with controls
Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS), a major cause of disability, was previously associated with multiple metabolomic changes, but many findings were contradictory. Case-control and longitudinal study designs could have played a role in that. To clarify metabolomic changes, we performed a simultaneous comparison of ischemic stroke metabolome in acute, chronic stages of stroke and controls.

Practice variability in the perioperative management of pediatric moyamoya disease in North America
Revascularization surgery decreases the long-term risk of stroke in children with moyamoya, but ischemic complications occur after 10-20% of moyamoya surgeries, with stroke in 5-10%.1-5 Though single center institutional practices for perioperative moyamoya care have been published,6 evidence-based approaches to safe perioperative management of children with moyamoya are limited due to disease rarity. We aimed to understand the degree of practice variability in perioperative pediatric moyamoya care and to identify areas of equipoise in order to target future research and consensus-building efforts.

Life Expectancy after Stroke Based On Age, Sex, and Rankin Grade of Disability: A Synthesis
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the developed world. The major factor affecting long term survival (other than age) is known to be the severity of disability. Yet to our knowledge there are no studies reporting life expectancies stratified by both age and severity. Remaining life expectancy is a key measure of health.

Pharmacotherapy for Patients With Atrial Fibrillation and Cerebral Microbleeds
Background: Patients with cerebral microbleeds have increased risk of intracranial hemorrhage and ischemic stroke. No trial specifically informs antithrombotic therapy for patients with cerebral microbleeds and atrial fibrillation. We investigated the safety of anticoagulation versus no anticoagulation with regard to cerebrovascular outcomes and mortality. Methods: All consecutive atrial fibrillation patients from 2015 to 2018 with MRI evidence of ≥1 cerebral microbleed at time of imaging were reviewed.

Factors Influencing Oral Intake Improvement and Feeding Tube Dependency in Patients with Poststroke Dysphagia
Objective: To assess ischemic stroke patients regarding the relationship between lesion locations, swallowing impairment, medical and demographic factors and (1) oral intake improvement and (2) feeding tube dependency at discharge from their acute hospital stay. Methods: We conducted an exploratory, retrospective observational longitudinal cohort study of acute, first-ever, ischemic stroke patients. Patients who had an initial nonoral feeding recommendation from a speech and language pathologist and who underwent a modified barium swallow study within their hospital stay were included.

Clinical Risk Factors in Thrombolysis therapy: Telestroke Versus Nontelestroke
The objective of this study is to determine clinical risk factors associated with exclusion from thrombolysis in telestroke and nontelestroke settings. These risk factors may offer clues for optimization of thrombolysis therapy in acute ischemic stroke population.
