‘Quality of life at 90 days after stroke and its correlation to activities of daily living’: A prospective cohort study
The main goal of stroke rehabilitation is to improve the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). In developed countries, several studies evaluating the HRQoL among stroke survivors have been conducted. In India, HRQoL related to stroke as an important health care issue has not received sufficient attention. The study was conducted to encourage the professionals to use stroke-specific HRQoL scales in clinical practice as one of the measures of stroke outcome.

Clinical and Radiological Profile of Cerebrovascular Disease in Polycythemia: Analysis of Neurologic Manifestations from a Tertiary Center in South India
Patients with polycythemia, either primary or secondary, are at elevated risk for thrombotic complications, including stroke. We aimed to investigate the clinical and radiological characteristics of cerebrovascular disease (CVD) in polycythemia, and describe other neurologic manifestations.

Predictors of Infarction in Tuberculous Meningitis in Indian Patients
Stroke is a devastating complication of tuberculous meningitis (TBM) and is an important determinant of its outcome. We propose a model which would help to predict development of infarction or cerebrovascular events in patients of TBM.

Educating Caregivers to Reduce Complications and Improve Outcomes of Stroke Patients (ECCOS) – A Cluster-Randomized Trial
Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity.1,2 Post-stroke complications were found to be significant predictors of mortality and morbidity.3-9 Patients treated in organized stroke units had better results,10 partly attributed to prevention of complications.11 As India has a limited number of stroke units,12 most stroke patients are managed in general wards potentially leading to sub-optimal outcomes.13

Glasgow Coma Scale ≤ 12 at Admission is a Predictor of Poor Functional Outcome (mRS 2–6) at One Year in Patients with Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a relatively uncommon cause of stroke with reported annual incidence of 0.2 –1.57 per hundred thousand population.1 Although the exact incidence of the disease in India is not known it is believed to be more common than western population especially in the young. It may occur in as much as 15–20% of all strokes occurring in age less than 40 years.2 The mean age in a lar ge series from India was around 30 years.3 Over the last few decades, the mortality rates of CVT have declined to around 4–5% due to improved diagnostic imaging, better therapeutics, and hospital care.

Stroke Awareness among Elderly Hypertensives in a Rural Area of Bangalore District, India
India faces a high and growing burden of hypertension, which is an important cerebrovascular risk factor, especially in elderly persons. Poor awareness contributes to delays in seeking health care, which is undesirable given the emergent nature of stroke. Literature regarding awareness in this subgroup of the population is scarce. Our objective was to assess awareness regarding cerebrovascular disease among elderly persons with hypertension residing in a rural area of Bangalore district, and estimate their individual risk of stroke.

Does the Environment Cause Changes in Hemiparetic Lower Limb Muscle Activity and Gait Velocity During Walking in Stroke Survivors?
Stroke is a common chronic health condition and ranks second among the leading causes of death and is the third leading cause of disability worldwide.1 Crude prevalence of stroke in different parts of India over the past two decades has been estimated to be 44.29 –559/100,000.2 After a stroke, most patients experience a considerable amount of gait impairments in their acute stage. The majority of stroke individuals regain their ability to walk.3,4 However, 70% of these individuals face difficulty in community ambulation even though they achieve relatively good steady-state walking ability.

Apolipoproteins B and A1 in Ischemic Stroke Subtypes
Introduction: Elevated serum apolipoprotein B and the apolipoprotein B/A1 ratio have been associated with ischemic stroke and intracranial atherosclerotic disease. We sought to assess the relationship between serum levels of apolipoprotein B, apolipoprotein A1, and the apolipoprotein B/A1 ratio with ischemic stroke subtypes and large artery atherosclerosis location. Materials and Methods: We evaluated serum apolipoprotein B and apolipoprotein A1 levels in consecutive, statin-na ïve, adult ischemic stroke patients admitted to an academic medical center in southern India.

Validation of ICH and ICH-GS Scores in an Indian Cohort: Impact of Medical and Surgical Management
Prognostic scores help in predicting mortality and functional outcome post intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). We aimed to validate the ICH and ICH-GS scores in a cohort of Indian patients with ICH and observe the impact of any surgical intervention on prognostication.
