Reply: Psychiatric Symptoms in Patients with Stroke: A Six-Month Follow-Up Study
In their study, Buoli et al examined the prevalence and predictors of several poststroke neuropsychiatric disorders in a group of 36 stroke patients from Italy using 9 different rating scales. Unlike our study, the presence and severity of affective disorders, namely depressive and anxiety symptoms, were assessed using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y).

Psychiatric Symptoms in Patients with Stroke: A Six-Month Follow-Up Study
We read with interest the paper by Al-Busaidi and Alamri,1 wherein the authors found that 18.4% and 23.7% of poststroke patients, respectively, showed clinically significant anxiety and depression. We conducted a similar study with a sample of poststroke patients, but considering as predictors of future psychiatric illness also the clinical features associated with stroke.

Key Factors Associated with Major Depression in a National Sample of Stroke Survivors
Depression, one of the most common complications encountered after stroke, is associated with poorer outcomes. The aim of this study was to determine the factors independently associated with and predictive of poststroke depression (PSD).

Intracranial Atherosclerosis and Poststroke Depression in Chinese Patients with Ischemic Stroke
Intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS) is a common etiology of ischemic stroke in Chinese patients, probably leading to regional hypoperfusion in the brain. The purpose of this prospective study was to investigate the association between ICAS and poststroke depression in Chinese patients with ischemic stroke.

Lacunar Infarcts, Depression, and Anxiety Symptoms One Year after Stroke
Mood disorders are frequent after stroke and are associated with poorer quality of life. Previous studies have reported conflicting results as to stroke subtype in the incidence of poststroke mood disorders. We explored the relationship between subcortical ischemic stroke subtype (lacunar) and presence of such symptoms at 1 year after stroke.

Short-Term Trajectories of Depressive Symptoms in Stroke Survivors and Their Family Caregivers
We utilize group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM) to delineate depressive symptom trajectories among stroke survivor–caregiver dyads, to identify predictors of the delineated trajectories, and to assess the influence of time-varying covariates (stroke survivor depressive symptoms and functional disability, caregiver depressive symptoms, and foreign domestic worker [FDW] assistance) on the level of the depressive symptom trajectories.

The Effect of a Brief Intervention for Patients with Ischemic Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Depression and anxiety are common after stroke. There is inconclusive evidence of the benefit of psychotherapy for poststroke depression and anxiety. Here, we used a brief intervention, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) brief therapy plus health education, to evaluate the changes in patients with ischemic stroke.
