Safety, tolerability and feasibility of remotely-instructed home-based transcranial direct current stimulation in children with cerebral palsy
Perinatal stroke or brain bleeds affect an estimated 1 in 3500 births in the United States, with an increased risk of developing cerebral palsy (CP), a developmental disorder associated with motor impairment [1,2]. While many CP rehabilitation approaches emphasize behavioral repetition to improve gait and upper extremity function, these therapies are costly, restricted to the clinic, and may offer limited functional gains [3]. Therefore, innovative rehabilitation strategies which are accessible, cost-effective, and time-efficient are indicated for long-term benefits.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation to assess motor neurophysiology after acute stroke in the United States: Feasibility, lessons learned, and values for future research
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has been widely applied in both basic and clinical neuroscience since its introduction in 1985. In addition to its potential therapeutic value for exciting or inhibiting neural circuits [1], TMS can be used to investigate corticomotor excitability (CME), which is a key aspect of voluntary movement [2]. For example, single-pulse TMS can elicit electrical signals, which propagate along descending motor pathways and are recorded as motor evoked potentials (MEP) in target muscles.

Background: Chronic aphasia, or language difficulty persisting beyond one year post-stroke, affects over 2.5 million individuals in the United States. Treatment response varies and language abilities are rarely restored. Intact, connected ipsilesional language areas and improved interhemispheric balance following stroke are consistent predictors of recovery.
