Dose and setting of rehabilitation received after stroke in Queensland, Australia: a prospective cohort study.
CONCLUSION: Amount of therapy varied widely between rehabilitation pathways. Amount of therapy and chance of improvement in function were highest with inpatient rehabilitation.

Hard return: the development and transformation process of social participation in stroke survivors; a qualitative study and initial theory.
CONCLUSION: This study has identified the development process of social participation in stroke survivors and "hard-return" suggests not only the tough process but also unsatisfactory results. Interventions targeted process ingredients seem to be potentially promising to improve stroke survivors' social function outcomes.

Composite active range of motion (CXA) and relationship with active function in upper and lower limb spastic paresis.
CONCLUSION: CXA is a valid measure for functional impairments in spastic paresis. CXA improvements following abobotulinumtoxinA injection correlated with and preceded active functional improvements.

Evaluation of a staff behaviour change intervention to increase the use of ward-based practice books and active practice during inpatient stroke rehabilitation: a phase-1 pre-post observational study.
CONCLUSION: A staff behaviour change intervention has the potential to increase the number of stroke survivors receiving ward-based practice books but did not increase active practice.

Six-month reviews for stroke survivors: a study of the modified Greater Manchester Stroke Assessment Tool with care home residents.
CONCLUSION: The modified GM-SAT provides a feasible means of conducting six-month reviews for stroke survivors in care homes and helps identify important needs. Further modifications have enhanced acceptability. Full implementation into practice requires staff training and organizational changes.

Validity of an enhanced EQ-5D-5L measure with an added cognitive dimension in patients with stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: The EQ-5D-5L+C, which includes a cognitive domain that is highly significant for stroke patients, showed increased content validity and good discriminative ability, without losing internal consistency.

Behavioural activation treatment for depression in individuals with neurological conditions: a systematic review.
CONCLUSION: The effectiveness of behavioural activation in randomized controlled trials varied from small to large (d = 0.24-1.7) in reducing depression. The content of behavioural activation was comparable to established treatment manuals. Adaptations appeared to support individuals to engage in therapy.

Effects of the introduction of objective criteria for referral and discharge in physical therapy for ischemic stroke in China: a randomized controlled trial.
CONCLUSION: Introduction of a set of rules for referral and therapy input at different stages of rehabilitation partially improved patients' ADL and quality of life, but did not improve motor function.

An investigation into the validity and reliability of mHealth devices for counting steps in chronic stroke survivors.
CONCLUSIONS: mHealth devices (Pacer-iphone, Fitbit Ultra, Google Fit, and Pacer-Android) are valid and reliable for step counting in chronic stroke survivors. Body location (paretic or non-paretic side) does not affect validity or reliability of the step count metric.

The effects of ankle-foot orthoses on walking speed in patients with stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

The ESCAPS study: a feasibility randomized controlled trial of early electrical stimulation to the wrist extensors and flexors to prevent post-stroke complications of pain and contractures in the paretic arm.
CONCLUSION: Early initiation of electrical stimulation was acceptable and feasible. Data collection methods used were feasible and acceptable to participants. A large definitive study is needed to determine if electrical stimulation is efficacious and cost effective.

Moving stroke rehabilitation evidence into practice: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials.
CONCLUSION: A large range of interventions are used to facilitate clinical practice change. Education is commonly used, but in isolation is not effective. Multicomponent interventions including facilitation and tailoring to local settings can change clinical practice and are more effective when targeting fewer changes.
