Po-05-141 association of interatrial block and the development of atrial fibrillation among patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia among those with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), affecting 1 in 5 patients. The combination of HCM and AF is associated with an increased risk of stroke, heart failure, and mortality. Interatrial block (IAB) is a distinct electrocardiographic (ECG) pattern describing conduction delay between the right and left atria through Bachmann ’s bundle. IAB has been identified as a predictor of AF across several disease states including congestive heart failure, valvular disease, and cardiac amyloidosis.

In patients with cryptogenic stroke, long-term monitoring is standard-of-care to exclude atrial tachyarrhythmias. Prior studies have not examined interatrial block (IAB) and other ECG markers paired with long-term continuous monitoring (the current gold standard) to predict likelihood of atrial fibrillation (AF) detection in stroke patients.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common type of sustained arrhythmia worldwide. Asymptomatic AF, which occurs frequently, is associated with an increased incidence of ischemic stroke, heart failure, and mortality. A large number of patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) remain undiagnosed due to the absence of electrocardiographic evidence of AF (AF-ECGs). If PAF could be predicted, targeted screening could improve early detection and treatment of this condition.

Atrial fibrillation is one of the important causes of ischemic stroke. Routine 24-hour monitoring reveals latent atrial fibrillation in up to about 5% of cases. Despite the fact that today there are many ways to record heart rate, there is no precise algorithm that allows to detect atrial fibrillation in patients who have survived ischemic stroke of unknown etiology.

Overall, 242 patients were randomized to ICM insertion within 10 days of the index stroke. Patients in the control group (n = 250) received site-specific usual care with external cardiac monitoring, such as 12-lead electrocardiograms, Holter monitoring, telemetry, or event recorders.

Utility and Limitations of Long-Term Monitoring of Atrial Fibrillation Using an Implantable Loop Recorder
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia diagnosed and treated in the world. The treatment of patients ’ symptoms as well as the prevention of stroke and heart failure is dependent on accurate detection and characterization of AF. A variety of electrocardiographic (ECG) monitoring techniques are being used for these purposes. However, these intermittent ECG monitoring techniques have been shown to under diagnose AF events, while having limited ability to characterize AF burden and density.
