Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest with Retrograde Cerebral Perfusion: How Long is Safe?
CONCLUSIONS: DHCA/RCA provided satisfactory outcomes after proximal aortic operations. The safe duration of RCP with DHCA was up to 30 minutes in our experience. When the circulatory arrest time is expected to exceed 60 minutes, other adjuncts for cerebral protection should be recommended.PMID:36243133 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.09.045

Risk of Stroke and Major Bleeding with Vitamin-K Antagonist Use after Mitral Valve Repair
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that VKA after MVr does not reduce risk of cerebral embolic events but is associated with increased risk of major bleeding events.PMID:36223805 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.09.038

Long-term Outcomes of Concomitant Surgical Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant atrial fibrillation ablation during cardiac surgery is safe, does not increase the rate of perioperative complications, and confers the benefit of long-term survival after cardiac surgery in adults. Atrial fibrillation ablation also improved cardiac surgery patients' long-term survival compared with the matched general atrial fibrillation population.PMID:36216085 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.09.036

Apixaban for Anticoagulation after Robotic Mitral Valve Repair
CONCLUSIONS: Anticoagulation with apixaban after minimally invasive robotic MVRep is safe and has similar rates of bleeding and thromboembolism compared to patients treated with warfarin.PMID:35973484 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.07.045

Selective Sinus Replacement for Aortic Root Aneurysm: Durable Approach in Selected Patients
CONCLUSIONS: For patients with sinus of Valsalva or asymmetric root aneurysm, SSR is associated with excellent operative outcomes, and mid-term follow-up suggests the technique is durable. Longer-term follow-up is needed to confirm continued stability of the aortic root.PMID:35872034 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.05.071
