Preparing for Bundled Payments: Impact of Complications Post-Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting on Costs.
CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative characteristics had less of an impact on costs post-CABG than postoperative complications. Postoperative complications vary in their impact on internal costs, with reoperation, stroke and renal failure having the greatest impact. In preparation for bundled payments, hospitals should focus on understanding and preventing drivers of high cost. PMID: 32896546 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Long-term Outcomes of Concomitant Surgical Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant atrial fibrillation ablation during cardiac surgery is safe, does not increase the rate of perioperative complications, and confers the benefit of long-term survival after cardiac surgery in adults. Atrial fibrillation ablation also improved cardiac surgery patients' long-term survival compared with the matched general atrial fibrillation population.PMID:36216085 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.09.036

Real-World Outcomes of On- vs Off-Pump Coronary Bypass Surgery: Result from Korean Nationwide Cohort
CONCLUSIONS: In this contemporary, nationwide, clinical practice claim registry, off-pump CABG was associated with higher long-term risks of mortality, MI, and repeat revascularization than on-pump CABG.PMID:34400133 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.07.035

Impact of Individual Income Level on Late Mortality After Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with a lower individual income level had an increased risk of the poorer long-term outcomes after CABG as compared with the highest individual income level quartile.PMID:35305990 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.02.055

Race and Socioeconomic Disparities in Proximal Aortic Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Patients of Non-White race undergoing proximal aortic surgery have less insurance coverage, more urgent procedures, and a higher comorbidity burden than White patients; which translates to Non-White patients having significantly higher morbidity. A greater focus on non-fatal outcome differentials and improving access to care likely will improve aortic surgery disparities.PMID:37031768 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.03.032
