CONCLUSIONS: Permanent EEG change and diabetes were significant postoperative stroke predictors in cardiac surgeries. The Specialized Donor Care Facility (SDCF) Model and Advances in Management of Thoracic Organ Donors.
CONCLUSIONS: Lack of high-quality prospective evidence results in conflicting practices across organ procurement organizations and best practices remain controversial. Future studies should focus on prospective, randomized investigations to evaluate donor management strategies. Impact of Complications After Cardiac Surgery on One-Year Patient Reported Outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS: While cardiac surgical patients have PRO scores similar to the general population, complications after cardiac surgery continue to negatively influence patient quality of life one-year after surgery. Hypothermia and Selective Antegrade Cerebral Perfusion Is Safe for Arch Repair in Type A Dissection.
CONCLUSIONS: Unilateral selective antegrade cerebral perfusion with moderate hypothermic circulatory arrest remains a safe strategy for cerebral protection during emergent surgical repair of acute type A dissection and provides equivalent outcomes for both limited and extensive aortic arch reconstruction. Based on these data, unilateral selective antegrade cerebral perfusion and moderate hypothermic circulatory arrest may represent an optimal strategy for cerebral protection in this acute setting. Predicted Risk of Mortality, Transfusion, and Postoperative Outcomes in Isolated Primary Valve Operations.
CONCLUSIONS: Increased PROM yielded higher risks of transfusion. Postoperative outcomes were worse in patients who received a transfusion.
