Conclusion:Appearance of vascular changes in SHRSPs, before any MRI-detectable brain lesion, is coupled to active neural proliferation in the SVZ. With disease progression, only newborn astrocytes can survive, likely because of the neurotoxicity triggered by brain oedema and oxidative stress.

Impact of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition on platelet tissue factor expression in stroke-prone rats
Conclusion: The current study shows for the first time that in hypertension the number of TF-positive megakaryocytes increases thus releasing in the circulation more platelets carrying a functionally active TF. AngII stimulates platelets to express TF.

Blood pressure excursions in acute ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis

Electrocardiographic left atrial abnormalities and risk of incident stroke in hypertensive patients with electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy
Conclusion: Abnormal PTFV1, a marker of left atrial abnormality, was strongly associated with incident stroke in hypertensive patients, independent of in-treatment SBP and other predictors of incident stroke. This association, in the absence of detectable atrial fibrillation, suggests that an underlying atrial cardiopathy may cause left atrial thrombus formation and a subsequent stroke without intervening clinically recognized atrial fibrillation.

Sex differences in blood pressure after stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion: This systematic review and meta-analysis indicates that women have higher SBP at the time of presentation with acute stroke. These differences are consistent with sex differences in hypertension patterns in older age, and may be explained by the fact that women are more likely to have a premorbid hypertension. This highlights the need for effective sex-specific blood pressure control in patients at high risk for stroke.

Early blood pressure lowering treatment in acute stroke. Ordinal analysis of vascular events in the Scandinavian Candesartan Acute Stroke Trial (SCAST)
Conclusion: Ordinal analysis of vascular events showed no overall effect of candesartan in the subacute phase of stroke. The effect of treatment given within 6 h of stroke onset appears promising, and will be addressed in ongoing trials. Ordinal analysis of vascular events is feasible and can be used in future trials.

Association of visit-to-visit variability in blood pressure and first stroke risk in hypertensive patients with chronic kidney disease
Conclusion: In hypertensive adults with mild-to-moderate CKD, visit-to-visit variability in BP was significantly associated with the risk of subsequent first stroke.

Novel insights into stroke risk beyond resting and maximal bicycle exercise systolic blood pressure
Conclusion: Stroke risk increased with increasing difference between resting and maximal exercise SBP, independent of BP at rest, suggesting that an exaggerated BP response to physical exercise may be an independent predictor of stroke.

Risk factors predisposing to acute stroke in India: a prospective study
Conclusion: The foremost risk factors for stroke in India, hypertension and diabetes, need to be controlled and treated like other global high-risk populations for stroke prevention. The NIHSS scores highlight the relationship between risk factors and stroke severity.

Blood pressure control and risk profile in poststroke survivors: a comparison with the general population
