Prevalence and the age of onset patterns of stroke in Jiangsu Province, China
ConclusionsThe findings emphasize the importance of implementing stroke prevention interventions in Jiangsu Province, China, especially for urban, smoking, and drinking males. It is of great significance to strengthen comprehensive management of health-related behaviors, including smoking cessation and moderate consumption of alcohol to have sustained beneficial effects on stroke risk.Chenlu He and Qian Chen contributed equally to this work.

Neurological toll of COVID-19
AbstractThe first case of coronavirus illness was discovered in Wuhan, China, in January 2020 and quickly spread worldwide within the next couple of months. The condition was initially only linked with respiratory disorders. After the evolution of various variants of the SARS-CoV-2, the critical impact of the virus spread to multiple organs and soon, neurological disorder manifestations started to appear in the infected patients. The review is focused on the manifestation of various neurological disorders linked with both the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. Disorders such as cytokine release syndrome,...

Lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels are associated with an increased risk of hematoma expansion and ensuing mortality in acute ICH patients
ConclusionsLower LDL-C levels (<  1.4 mmol/L) are associated with an increased risk of HE and ensuing mortality in acute ICH patients. Maintaining an optimal LDL-C range may have therapeutic potential against HE which merits further investigation.

Thrombolytic DNT and fatality and disability rates in acute ischemic stroke: a study from Bigdata Observatory Platform for Stroke of China
ConclusionsThe results did not show that shorter DNT for tPA administration was significantly associated with better 1-year outcomes.

LncRNA SERPINB9P1 expression and polymorphisms are associated with ischemic stroke in a Chinese Han population
In conclusion, the lncRNA SERPINB9P1 may protect against cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury and neurological impairment after IS. The SERPINB9P1 rs375556 polymorphism was associated with susceptibility to female IS, and SERPINB9P1 poly morphisms may influence the metabolism of blood glucose and regulation of coagulation function in patients with IS.

Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on reperfusion therapy for acute ischemic stroke patients in Huizhou City, China
ConclusionDuring the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the number of AIS patients receiving reperfusion therapy significantly decreased when compared to the same period in 2019. The patients ’ condition increased severity, ODT increased, and the DNT decreased. DPT was not significant for self-visiting and ambulance patients. Moderate to severe stroke patients were more likely to utilize ambulance services.

Intracranial hemorrhage in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients
ConclusionAlthough relatively uncommon among COVID-19 patients, ICH is associated with a high mortality rate. Early identification of patients at risk of developing ICH, particularly with comorbid conditions and on anticoagulant therapy, may be important to improve outcomes.

Cumulative risk of stroke recurrence over the last 10  years: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThe risk of stroke recurrence varies greatly from 3  months to over 10 years and increases significantly over time in both young and old subgroup. The heterogeneity may be explained by follow-up time, regions, age, methodology differences, and stroke types, which was needed further exploration in future.

Clinical characteristics of cerebral hemorrhage with bilateral sudden deafness as the first symptom
ConclusionThe results showed that patients were mostly middle-aged and elderly with no typical stroke symptoms, and a history of stroke and hypertension increased the risk of hearing loss. The cause of hearing loss in patients with cerebral hemorrhage may be related to the damage of the hearing conduction pathway or (and) the lack of blood supply to the central auditory nervous system. Detecting hearing impairment in time and actively intervening can help most patients to improve their hearing significantly. The degree of hearing damage and recovery is related to the bleeding site, the amount of bleeding, and the timely treatment.

Serum magnesium but not calcium was associated with hemorrhagic transformation in stroke overall and stroke subtypes: a case-control study in China
AbstractAssociation between serum calcium and magnesium versus hemorrhagic transformation (HT) remains to be identified. A total of 1212 non-thrombolysis patients with serum calcium and magnesium collected within 24  h from stroke onset were enrolled. Backward stepwise multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate association between calcium and magnesium versus HT. Calcium and magnesium were entered into logistic regression analysis in two models, separately: model 1, as continuous va riable (per 1-mmol/L increase), and model 2, as four-categorized variable (being collapsed into quartiles). HT oc...

Administration of tissue plasminogen activator without coagulation results in a Chinese population
AbstractRoutine coagulation test before intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) use increases the door to needle time (DNT). We sought to evaluate the safety of tPA use without coagulation results and its impact on prognosis. In our stroke registry, tPA was delivered with coagulation results from December 2015 to April 2016 and without coagulation results from May 2016 to December 2016. Differences of demographics, clinical characteristic, and prognosis between these two groups were analyzed. In addition, logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify predictors for DNT of over 60  min. A total of 201 strok...
