Hypothyroidism is associated with all ‐cause mortality in a national cohort of chronic hemodialysis patients
ConclusionHypothyroidism is associated with increased all‐cause mortality in chronic HD patients. The interaction of hypothyroidism and diabetes, but not other common comorbidities in HD patients, has an effect on mortality risks.

Serial versus single troponin measurements for the prediction of cardiovascular events and mortality in stable chronic haemodialysis patients
ConclusionMost haemodialysis patients do not have elevated troponin levels at baseline. Troponin levels that remain elevated or fluctuate are associated with worse outcomes. A serial troponin measurement strategy is associated with better sensitivity and higher negative predictive value compared with single troponin measurement.

Patient awareness and beliefs about the risk factors and comorbidities associated with chronic kidney disease – a mixed‐methods study
ConclusionParticipants had good understanding of some risk factors for CKD (hypertension and diabetes) but limited understanding of others. Awareness of comorbidities was also less than for other chronic conditions. Compared to diabetes and CVD, CKD was perceived to pose less of a threat to life. Patient education that addresses CKD risk factors, comorbidities and outcomes may increase awareness and foster better self‐management for people with CKD.

High urinary albumin/creatinine ratio at admission predicts poor functional outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsA high UACR at admission may predict a poor outcome at discharge in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Prognostic impact of renal dysfunction in patients with acute coronary syndrome—role beyond the CHA2DS2‐VASc score: Data from Taiwan acute coronary syndrome full spectrum registry
ConclusionsRenal dysfunction is a significant risk factor of future adverse events in ACS patients and may improve the prognostic impact of the CHA2DS2‐VASc score. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Circulating tumour necrosis factor receptors 1 and 2 predict contrast‐induced nephropathy and progressive renal dysfunction: A prospective cohort study
ConclusionMarkedly elevated concentrations of circulating TNFRs were correlated with the occurrence of CIN and significantly associated with prolonged renal dysfunction regardless of the development of CIN.

Annual decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate is a risk factor for cardiovascular events independent of proteinuria
ConclusionsAnnual decline of GFR is an independent risk factor for CVD. Serial measurement of both creatinine and proteinuria would be better to predict the incidence of CVD in the general population.

Cerebral white matter hyperintensity predicts cardiovascular events in haemodialysis patients
ConclusionsThe present study indicates that the presence of WMHs is a novel predictor of cardiovascular events in HD patients, and that PVH is more closely associated with incident cardiovascular disease.
