Stroke like migraine attacks after radiation therapy (SMART) syndrome a case series of three patients (P6.179)
Conclusions:Our patients represent the first case series of SMART syndrome in a single institution. Our cases share similarities to the prior reports in the literature and highlights the clinical and MRI triad of acute onset headaches, neurological deficits and MRI findings of transient contrast enhancement of the cortex with white matter sparing in a previous radiation field.Disclosure: Dr. rauf has nothing to disclose. Stroke like syndrome and simple partial seizures secondary to intrathecal methotrexate use for the treatment of acute lymphocytic leukemia. (p6.181)
Conclusions:Our case may be the first reported of seizures and stroke like syndrome in the same patient for ALL treated with MTX. Clinicians should include Methotrexate induced leukoencephalopathy in their differential of seizures, stroke like syndrome and a combination of both. MRI DWI, ADC and FLAIR images should be included in the diagnostic evaluation of MTX induced encephalopathy especially with IT methotrexate.Disclosure: Dr. Fares has nothing to disclose. Neurologic manifestations of geriatric patients with cancer (P6.188)
Conclusions:Neurologic manifestations are reported in about 40% of patients with cancer, approximately half of living patients with cancer are over 65 years of age, this increase merits the medical and related personnel to be prepared and recognize, diagnose and treat this highly morbid conditions. Neurologic manifestations and diagnoses in patients with cancer are different in the elderly and should be treated individually; the present work offers information regarding clinical symptoms and neurologic diagnoses in this population.Disclosure: Dr. Cacho Diaz has nothing to disclose. The Vertebral Body Infarct Sign: A Case of Thoracic Spinal Cord Ischemic Stroke (P3.292)
Conclusions:While the vertebral body infarct sign is often recognized by neuro-radiologists, it is still relatively unknown to practicing neurologists. Letter re: Excess mortality and hospitalized morbidity in newly treated epilepsy patients
I read with interest the article by Chen et al.1 on the burden of mortality and hospitalized morbidity in newly treated patients with epilepsy in Hong Kong. The authors documented a very high rate of physical and psychiatric comorbidities in the cohort of patients with epilepsy, especially those on enzyme-inducing antiepileptic drugs (EIAEDs). While psychiatric comorbidities in patients with epilepsy have been well-documented and are thought to have a bidirectional relationship, the physical comorbidities (increased cancer, stroke, and cardiovascular disease [CVD] risk) are less well-reported and, if substantiated in other...

Excess mortality and hospitalized morbidity in newly treated epilepsy patients
Conclusions: Newly treated epilepsy patients bear excess mortality and hospitalization risks. They have higher risk of developing stroke, ischemic heart disease, and cancer. Treatment with EIAEDs was associated with increased overall morbidity.

Pre-Mixing tPA: Moving Past Gestalt (P2.303)
Conclusions: While pre-mixing tPA does not incur financial risk as drug manufacturers replace unused vials without cost, stroke centers remain wary of wasting the drug. We believe succinct criteria can reduce avoidable tPA waste, allowing health care providers to remain fiscally responsible while ensuring AIS patients are treated as fast as possible.Disclosure: Dr. McCarthy has nothing to disclose. Ischemic Stroke in Oncological Patients (P1.117)
Conclusions :In our series, serum DD levels, a marker of a hypercoagulable state, appear as a useful tool to identify patients with cryptogenic stroke and risk for underlying malignancy; while classical CRF failed to show differences between both groups (IS-C vs IS-nC). Interestingly, our patients showed a prevalence of a single vascular lesion subtype, against other previous series that reported a predominant pattern of multiple-lesions.Disclosure: Dr. Gatto has received personal compensation for activities with Tuteur, Bago, Novartis, and Glaxo-Smith Klein as a speaker and a scientific advisor.
