Factors associated with cognitive improvement in subacute stroke survivors
CONCLUSION: Approximately half of subacute stroke survivors have post-stroke cognitive impairment. Eating and social interaction are significantly associated with cognitive improvement.PMID:34232322 | DOI:10.2340/16501977-2859

Discharge home after acute stroke: Differences between older and younger patients.
CONCLUSION: The presence of a spouse is an additional important factor determining discharge home in older stroke patients. It is important to monitor and support informal caregivers in order to provide appropriate care for older community-dwelling stroke patients.

Depression is an independent determinant of life satisfaction early after stroke.
CONCLUSION: Most stroke-surviving patients are satisfied with their life early after a stroke. The score on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale depression items is independently associated with life satisfaction. Physicians should therefore pay close attention to the mood of these patients.

Effects of Kinesio taping for stroke patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study.
CONCLUSION: Stroke patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain can experience greater reductions in Shoulder Pain and Disability Index, pain, and improvement in shoulder flexion, external, and internal rotation after 3 weeks of Kinesio taping intervention compared with sham Kinesio taping. Kinesio taping may be an alternative treatment option for stroke patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain.

Lower-limb motor coordination is significantly impaired in ambulatory people with chronic stroke: A cross-sectional study.
CONCLUSION: Motor coordination of the lower limbs is significantly impaired after stroke, but the deficits of the non-paretic lower limb (17%) appear not to be clinically relevant. These findings suggest that interventions prescribed to improve motor coordination after stroke should focus on the paretic lower limb and/or include bilateral activities.

Skeletal muscle metabolism after stroke: A comparative study using treadmill and overground walking test.
CONCLUSION: Carbohydrate oxidation accounted for the majority of fuel oxidation at the preferred walking speed in post-stroke individuals. The increased carbohydrate utilization recorded at preferred walking speed may have influenced the physical activity profile.

Test-retest reliability of the Participation domain of the Stroke Impact Scale in persons with chronic stroke.
CONCLUSION: The SIS Participation domain is reliable in persons with chronic stroke and mild to moderate disability and can be used to assess perceived participation in this population.

Intra- and inter-rater reliability of Fugl-Meyer Assessment of Upper Extremity in stroke.
CONCLUSION: The FMA-UE is reliable both within and between raters in patients with stroke in the early subacute phase. A wider international use of FMA-UE will allow comparison of stroke recovery between regions and countries and thereby potentially improve the quality of care and rehabilitation in persons with stroke worldwide.

The nature stroke study; NASTRU: A randomized controlled trial of nature-based post-stroke fatigue rehabilitation.
CONCLUSION: Nature-based rehabilitation is feasible and well tolerated. A larger randomized controlled trial is warranted.

Levels of physical activity in acute stroke patients treated at a stroke unit: A prospective, observational study in Sweden.
CONCLUSION: Patients are physically inactive, alone and in their rooms for a majority of the time during the first days at a comprehensive stroke unit. There is some increase in physical activity during the first week after admission.

Pre-stroke physical activity in relation to post-stroke outcomes - linked to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF): A scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Pre-stroke PA has been studied in relation to all components in the ICF framework.
