Recovery of arm function during acute to chronic stage of stroke quantified by kinematics
CONCLUSION: Kinematic variables of movement time, mean velocity and number of velocity peaks were effective in quantifying the recovery of the upper limb after stroke. The rate of recovery was dependent on age, stroke severity and type of stroke.PMID:33729539 | DOI:10.2340/16501977-2813

Impact of rehabilitation start time on functional outcomes after stroke.
CONCLUSION: Starting post-stroke rehabilitation on the day of admission or second day of hospitalization may be the optimum timing for functional outcomes. However, for haemorrhagic stroke, starting rehabilitation on the second day of hospitalization may be more effective than on the day of admission. PMID: 33284355 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Pre-stroke physical activity in relation to post-stroke outcomes - linked to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF): A scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Pre-stroke PA has been studied in relation to all components in the ICF framework. However, this review highlights the high risk of bias, heterogeneity in pre-stroke PA assessments, and the lack of information regarding haemorrhagic strokes in the current literature.PMID:34904691 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v53.51

Echocardiographic abnormalities in patients with stroke during the subacute rehabilitation phase.
Conclusion: The prevalence of cardiac problems is high among patients with subacute stroke regardless of a history of heart disease, and this should be taken into account when planning rehabilitation programmes. PMID: 25188713 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Berg Balance Scale score at admission can predict walking suitable for community ambulation at discharge from inpatient stroke rehabilitation.
CONCLUSION: The Berg Balance Scale can be used at rehabilitation admission to predict the degree of improvement in walking for patients with stroke. PMID: 29068037 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Relationship between fatigue after acquired brain injury and depression, injury localization and aetiology: An explorative study in a rehabilitation setting.
CONCLUSION: Although depression explains a high degree of fatigue after an acquired brain injury, mental fatigue after brain injury should be viewed as a condition partly separate from depression. Future extensive comparative studies are required, preferably including neuropsychological measures. PMID: 30003267 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Injury of the corticoreticular pathway in subarachnoid haemorrhage after rupture of a cerebral artery aneurysm.
Conclusion: Corticoreticular pathway injury is common in patients with motor weakness after subarachnoid haemorrhage, and it appears to be related to weakness in the contralateral shoulder, hip and lower extremity. PMID: 25594856 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Fatigue is Associated with Reduced Participation and Health-Related Quality of Life Five Years After Perimesencephalic Subarachnoid Haemorrhage: A Multicentre Cross-Sectional Study
CONCLUSION: Five years after perimesencephalic subarachnoid haemorrhage, one-third of patients still reported fatigue, associated with worse participation and health-related quality of life. Future studies should examine whether these patients may benefit from rehabilitation aimed at fatigue.PMID:35191989 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v54.212
