Mild Cognitive Impairment that Does Not Progress to Dementia: A Population ‐Based Study
ConclusionsMCI subgroups with different 5 ‐year outcomes had some distinct characteristics suggesting different underlying causes. The progressors, unlike the reverters, had a profile broadly typical of Alzheimer's disease; the stable MCIs had other, including vascular, morbidity. These data shed light on the heterogeneity of MCI in the p opulation.

Chronic Physical Conditions, Multimorbidity, and Mild Cognitive Impairment in Low ‐ and Middle‐Income Countries
ConclusionThese results highlight the need to investigate the underlying mechanisms linking chronic conditions and MCI and whether prevention or treatment of chronic conditions or multimorbidity can reduce the onset of cognitive decline and subsequent dementia, especially in LMICs.

Medicare Part D Use of Older Medicare Beneficiaries Admitted to Hospice
ConclusionReceipt of medications through Medicare Part D after hospice admission is common, particularly for preventative medications, and varies according to admission diagnosis. Further research aimed at better understanding individual‐, provider‐, and healthcare system–level contributors to nonpalliative medication use in the hospice population is warranted.

Periventricular White Matter Hyperintensities and Functional Decline
ConclusionIn this large population‐based study with long‐term repeated measures of function, periventricular WMHV was particularly associated with accelerated functional decline.

Statins for Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Events and Mortality in Older Men
ConclusionsStatin use was associated with a significant lower risk of mortality in older male physicians ≥70 and a nonsignificant lower risk of CVD events. Results did not change in those who were >76 years at baseline or according to functional status. There was a suggestion that those with elevated total cholesterol may benefit. Further work is needed to determine which older individuals will benefit from statins as primary prevention.

Predicting Discharge to Institutional Long ‐Term Care After Stroke: A Systematic Review and Metaanalysis
ConclusionAge and stroke severity are important predictors of institutional long‐term care admission directly from the hospital after an acute stroke. Potentially modifiable factors should be the target of future research. Stroke outcome studies should report discharge destination, defining the model of care provided in the long‐term care setting.

Effect of New Oral Anticoagulants on Prescribing Practices for Atrial Fibrillation in Older Adults
ConclusionPrescription of anticoagulants for AF increased in older adults primarily because of an increase in the use of NOACs. Nonetheless, fewer than 45% of participants were prescribed an anticoagulant. Additional research is needed to optimize prescribing practices for older adults with AF.

Survival, Functional Status, and Eating Ability After Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy Tube Placement for Acute Stroke
ConclusionIn this community‐based sample, individuals who had had a stroke and a PEG tube placed had high mortality, and survivors were unlikely to be functional or mobile or to recover eating ability after hospitalization. A palliative care discussion including goals of care should occur before PEG tube placement is considered.
