Parallel Walk Test: Its Correlation With Balance and Motor Functions in People With Chronic Stroke
To investigate (1) the intrarater, interrater, and test-retest reliability of the times and scores generated in the parallel walk test (PWT); (2) their correlations with impairments and activity limitations of individuals with stroke; and (3) the cutoff times that best discriminate individuals with stroke from healthy elderly subjects.

Restricted Participation in Stroke Caregivers: Who is at Risk?
To identify caregiver-, stroke survivor- and caregiving situation-related factors that are associated with caregivers’ restriction from participation in their normal activities (i.e., participation restriction) over the first two years post stroke.

Effect of an Evidence-Based Mobility Intervention on the Level of Function in Acute Intracerebral and Subarachnoid Hemorrhagic Stroke Patients on a Neurointensive Care Unit
To explore the effect of an evidence-based mobility intervention on the level of function (LOF) achieved by patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) stroke and to identify clinical characteristics and measures associated with walking distances>15.24m.

How do Fugl-Meyer arm motor scores relate to dexterity according to the Action Research Arm test at 6 months post stroke?
The Action Research Arm Test (ARAT) and the Fugl-Meyer assessment of the upper extremity (FM-UE) are frequently used outcome measures for arm-hand capacity and motor impairments of the upper paretic limb after stroke. The aim of the present study was to determine the optimal cut-off scores for the FM-UE with regard to predicting no, poor, limited, notable or full upper limb capacity according to frequently used cut-off points for the ARAT at 6 months post stroke.

The Impact of Outpatient Rehabilitation Medicare Reimbursement Caps on Utilization and Cost of Rehabilitation Care after Ischemic Stroke: Do Caps contain costs?
To estimate the proportion of ischemic stroke patients who fall within and above the total outpatient rehabilitation caps before and after the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 (BBA 1997) took effect. In addition, estimate the cost of post-stroke outpatient rehabilitation cost and resource utilization in these patients prior to and after the implementation of the caps.

A Multifaceted Approach to the Enhancement of Motor Recovery After Stroke
Despite aggressive conventional therapy, lasting hemiplegia persists in a large percentage of stroke survivors. This project critically reviewed the rationale behind targeting motor recovery at multiple sites along the motor learning network by combining robotic therapy with pharmacotherapy and virtual reality-based reward learning for stroke survivors.

Long-term Outcome in Aphasia – Improvement from 15 to 66 Months Post Stroke
To investigate long term outcome of post stroke aphasia, an area where present knowledge is sparse and ambiguous. On the background of recent insight into brain plasticity we hypothesized improvement of language function even years after stroke.

Safety, Tolerability, and Effectiveness of Dextromethorphan/Quinidine for Pseudobulbar Affect in Patients with Stroke: PRISM-II
A multicenter, open label study (PRISM-II) was conducted to provide additional effectiveness, safety, and tolerability data on dextromethorphan and quinidine (DM/Q) for the treatment of pseudobulbar affect (PBA) in patients with dementia, traumatic brain injury, or stroke. Enrollment has now completed for the cohort of patients with PBA secondary to stroke; results will be presented.

Energy expenditure and cost during walking after stroke: A systematic review
To systematically review the evidence to determine energy expenditure (EE) in VO2 ml/kg/min and energy cost (EC) in VO2 ml/kg/m during walking post-stroke and how it compares to healthy controls. We aim to determine how applicable current exercise prescription guidelines are to stroke survivors.

Risk factors for symptoms of depression and anxiety one year post stroke: a longitudinal study
To estimate the relative contribution of psychological factors next to socio-demographic and premorbid/stroke-related factors to the risk of developing symptoms of depression and anxiety after stroke.

Multivariable Prediction of Return to Work at Six-Month Follow-up in Mild to Moderate Acute Stroke Patients
To investigate predictors of return to work (RTW) in a post-stroke sample. We hypothesized that acutely measured stroke severity, occupational status, and neurocognitive abilities would predict RTW six months later.
