Maintained acute stroke admission during the first wave COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden, a register-based study
Clinicians and researchers have addressed concerns about the negative impact of COVID-19 outbreaks on the ability of health care systems to provide timely assessment and acute therapies to patients with stroke. The aim of this study is to describe stroke care during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic compared to the same period the year before at an acute care hospital in Sweden.

Recurrent ischemic stroke – Examples from Sweden
Recently, in a systematic review and meta-analysis, Kolmos et al found that the rates of recurrent ischemic stroke seem unchanged over time.1 This is disappointing, especially as the benefits of secondary prevention have become more and more recognized over the recent decades. Possibly, this knowledge has not been materialized in practice everywhere. However there are promising results from Sweden.

Intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) accounts for about 15% of all stroke in Sweden and is associated with high rates of death and disability.1,2 Biomarkers can be used in predicting disease risk as well as for disease diagnosis and prognosis estimation.3 A range of biomarkers have been studied in relationship to risk of ICH.4-7

Multicenter, retrospective analysis of endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke in nonagenarians
Background: With the increasing age of acute stroke patients being admitted to hospitals, more data are needed on indications, complications and outcome of endovascular treatment (EVT) in the very elderly. Methods: Retrospective observational study with data collection from Belgian, Swiss, Canadian comprehensive stroke centers and Swedish EVT National database. All patients with acute ischemic stroke were eligible if aged older than or ≥90 years and treated with EVT ± pretreatment with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT).

Risk of Ischemic Stroke and Major Bleeding in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation and Cancer
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is an important risk factor for ischemic stroke. Cancer may increase the risk both of ischemic stroke and of bleeding. Less is known about risk of ischemic stroke and bleeding among cancer patients with AF, complicating the prevention of ischemic stroke in these patients. Methods: Register based cohort study comprising all Swedish patients hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of AF from July 1, 2005 until December 31, 2014. Patients with cancer diagnosis were compared to the rest of the cohort.

Tick-borne Encephalitis: Stroke-like Presentation
We report a unique case of clinical symptoms and radiological findings compatible with a stroke-like inflammatory lesion in the thalamus, suggesting microangiopathy from TBEV. Our case shows that TBEV could be a possible cause of stroke-like lesions.
