Ischemic stroke and vascular risk factors in young and older adults. Community-based retrospective study (2011-2020)
CONCLUSIONS: The results reinforce the need for continuity of care and follow-up in people with acute stroke in primary care and the need to improve the quality of registries.PMID:37086593 | DOI:10.1016/j.aprim.2023.102623

Study protocol of a telephone problem-solving intervention for Spanish-speaking caregivers of veterans post-stroke: an 8-session investigator-blinded, two-arm parallel (intervention vs usual care), randomized clinical trial
This study tests the impact of a telephone and online problem-solving intervention for Spanish-speaking stroke caregivers on caregiver outcomes.METHODS: The design is a two-arm parallel randomized clinical trial with repeated measures. We will enroll 290 caregivers from 3 Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers. Participants randomized into the intervention arm receive a problem-solving intervention that uses telephone and online education and care management tools on the previously developed and nationally available RESCUE en Español Caregiver website. In the usual care group, participants receive the information and/or su...

Risk of thrombotic events and other complications in anticoagulant users infected with SARS-CoV-2: an observational cohort study in primary health care in SIDIAP (Catalonia, Spain)
CONCLUSIONS: OAC users in our study had more comorbidities and were older than non-users, well known risks for hospitalization being confirmed with our results. We also found in our study that OAC exposure was not associated to an increased risk in the mortality rate, and it was associated with higher risks of hospital admission and thromboembolic events, although we cannot assess the effect of the interventions applied during hospital admission on the outcomes studied, as our database is a PHC database.TRIAL REGISTRATION: EUPAS register: EUPAS37205 .PMID:35676639 | PMC:PMC9174624 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-022-01752-5

The use and adherence of oral anticoagulants in Primary Health Care in Catalunya, Spain: A real-world data cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: Acenocoumarol was the most frequently prescribed OAC as first therapy in NVAF patients. Non-naive to DOAC showed better persistence than naive. Rivaroxaban showed higher proportion of adherent patients during the implementation phase than apixaban and dabigatran the lowest. PMID: 32788057 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prognostic importance of diagnosticated peripheral arterial disease through the ankle brachial index in spanish general population.
CONCLUSIONS: Low ABI is associated with a significant increase in the risk of stroke, ischemic heart disease, cardiovascular mortality and total mortality in our population. The inclusion of ABI improved the reclassification of people at intermediate risk, according to FRESCO cardiovascular, so its use in that risk category would be justified. Impact of cardiovascular risk factors in the Extremadura population: HERMEX cohort contributions for a preventive strategy.
CONCLUSIONS: Hypertension confers the greatest burden of cardiovascular disease in the population of Extremadura, followed by hypercholesterolemia and smoking. These RF are priority objectives for a population-based preventive strategy. PMID: 30638699 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Cost-effectiveness analysis of apixaban versus acetylsalicylic acid in the prevention of stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in Spain.
CONCLUSIONS: According to this model, when costs and estimated lifetime outcomes achieved with apixaban are compared with those of ASA, apixaban was assessed to be a cost-effective treatment for the prevention of stroke in patients with NVAF in Spain.
