Relationship between serum insulin-like growth factor 1 levels and ischaemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion Higher serum IGF-1 was significantly correlated with a lower risk of ischaemic stroke. In view of the high degree of heterogeneity, it may need more studies to confirm the prognostic value of serum IGF-1 levels in ischaemic stroke and explore the sources of heterogeneity.

Effects of a nurse-led peer support intervention for stroke survivors: protocol for a randomised controlled trial
This study aims to develop a nurse-led peer support intervention for stroke survivors based on the Person–Environment–Occupation–Performance Model and evaluate its effects on the psychosocial outcomes of stroke survivors. Methods and analysis This is an assessor-blinded two-arm randomised controlled trial. A convenience sample of 120 stroke survivors will be recruited from two community centres and one rehabilitation unit in Yangzhou, a medium-sized city in eastern China, with 60 participants each in the intervention and control groups. The participants allocated to the intervention group will receive th...

Association between hospital volume, processes of care and outcomes after acute ischaemic stroke: a prospective observational study
Conclusions We found no significant associations between hospital volume, processes of care at the hospital, and mortality, recurrent stroke, and combined vascular events in patients with ischaemic stroke. However, hospital volume may be associated with poor outcome at 1 year.

Rationale and design of a prospective study evaluating population pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of rivaroxaban in Chinese patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
Introduction Rivaroxaban is one of the most commonly used non-vitamin K antagonists for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Different individual exposures exist for Asian and non-Asian populations, and dose selection is different for Japanese and non-Japanese subjects. Few studies have investigated the pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of rivaroxaban in Chinese patients and provided a solid reference for dose selection and individualised therapy. Methods and analysis This is a single-centre prospective study. Rivaroxaban-treated Chinese NVAF patients will be recruited ...

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting for vertebral artery stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: This Cochrane Review provides low- to moderate-certainty evidence indicating that there are no significant differences in either short- or long-term risks of stroke, death, or TIA between people with symptomatic vertebral artery stenosis treated with ET plus MT and those treated with MT alone.PMID:35579383 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD013692.pub2

Indoor solid fuel use for cooking and the risk of incidental non-fatal cardiovascular disease among middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults: a prospective cohort study
Conclusions This cohort study provides evidence for the effects of solid fuel use on incidental non-fatal CVD in middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults. Advocating for the use of clean energy and ventilation stoves is important to cardiovascular health.

Calligraphy-based rehabilitation exercise for improving the upper limb function of stroke patients: protocol for an evaluator-blinded randomised controlled trial
This study aims to design a randomised controlled trial to assess the effect of a customised CCH-based exercise for poststroke rehabilitation of upper limb dysfunction. Methods and analysis A single-blinded randomised controlled trial will be conducted on 60 stroke patients. The patients will be randomly allocated into three groups: (1) conventional occupational therapy (COT) group, (2) COT+CCH group, (3) COT+Graded Repetitive Arm Supplementary Program (GRASP) group. For the COT group, patients will receive COT treatment of 1 hour/day. For the COT+CCH group, patients will receive 30 mins COT treatment and 30 mins CCH trai...

Predictors for the prognosis and recurrence of ischaemic stroke among young Chinese patients: a cohort study
Conclusions Our research shows that when developing prevention strategies for young people, measures that focus on mitigating risk factors should be considered. In addition, vascular screening of young populations is also of vital importance for stroke prevention and poor prognosis prediction.

SARS-COV-2 - the pandemic of the XXI century, clinical manifestations - neurological implications
J Med Life. 2022 Mar;15(3):319-327. doi: 10.25122/jml-2020-0151.ABSTRACTIn December 2019, in Wuhan, China, the first cases of infection with SARS-CoV 2 responsible for COVID-19 disease were identified. SARS-CoV 2 was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020, and since then has attracted the medical world's attention. The threat to humans' health that this emerging pandemic could leave raises awareness on the importance of understanding the mechanisms that underlie the developing conditions. The epidemiology, clinical picture, and pathogenesis of COVID-19 show that this virus presents new strategies to overcome the past defens...
