Estimation of stroke severity with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale grading and retinal features: A cross-sectional study
To estimate National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) grading of stroke patients with retinal characteristics. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Baseline information and retinal photos were collected within 2 weeks of admission. An NIHSS score was measured for each patient by trained doctors. Patients were classified into 0 to 4 score group and 5 to 42 score group for analysis. Three multivariate logistic models, with traditional clinical characteristics alone, with retinal characteristics alone, and with both, were built. For clinical characteristics, h...

Clinical study of stent forming for symptomatic internal carotid artery stenosis
Stroke is one of the diseases that seriously threaten the survival and health of human beings. In Europe and the United States, stroke is the second leading cause of death after heart disease and tumors.[1] Stroke is also one of the fatal diseases in Asian countries. On average, about 1.5 million new stroke patients are added each year in China, and the incidence of stroke is increasing year by year. About 80% of all stroke patients are ischemic stroke, and symptomatic internal carotid atherosclerotic stenosis is another important cause of ischemic stroke. Ipsilateral carotid stenosis ≥50% increases the incidence of tran...

Predictive values of CSS and NIHSS in the prognosis of patients with acute cerebral infarction: A comparative analysis
This study aims to investigate the predictive values of the Chinese Stroke Scale (CSS) and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) in the prognosis of patients with acute cerebral infarction. A total of 399 patients with acute cerebral infarction were assessed using CSS and NIHSS within 1 day after admission. Then, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were established, and the area under the curves of these 2 scoring systems was compared. The area under the curve of CSS and NIHSS was 0.796 and 0.794, respectively. CSS and NIHSS have good predictive values for the prognosis of patients with acute...

Early neurological deterioration during the acute phase as a predictor of long-term outcome after first-ever ischemic stroke
Early neurological deterioration (END) is associated with increased risk of functional disability and mortality. However, data are limited regarding the long-term risk of poor functional outcomes. Thus we explored the association between END and long-term outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke. A total of 1064 patients were enrolled with acute ischemic stroke who were consecutively admitted to the 3 stroke units of Huai-He Hospital, Kaifeng, China. END was defined as an increment change of at least one point in motor power or total National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score deterioration ≥2 points ...
