Should This Patient Be Screened for Atrial Fibrillation?: Grand Rounds Discussion From Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Discussion From Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Ann Intern Med. 2019 Dec 03;171(11):828-836 Authors: Burns RB, Zimetbaum P, Lubitz SA, Smetana GW Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is the most common type of cardiac arrhythmia, affecting 2.7 million to 6.1 million persons in the United States. Although some persons with AFib have no symptoms, others do. For those without symptoms, AFib may be detected by 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG), single-lead monitors (such as ambulatory blood pressure monitors and pulse oximeters), or consumer devices (such as wearable monitors and smartphones). Pulse pa...

External Validation of a Tool Predicting 7-Year Risk of Developing Cardiovascular Disease, Type 2 Diabetes or Chronic Kidney Disease
ConclusionsValidation of our previously developed tool showed robust discriminative performance across populations. Model recalibration is recommended to account for different disease rates. Our risk prediction tool can be useful in large-scale prevention programs for identifying those in need of further risk profiling because of their increased risk for chronic cardiometabolic diseases.

Intermountain chronic disease risk score (ICHRON) validation for prediction of incident chronic disease diagnoses in an australian primary prevention population.
CONCLUSION: ICHRON predicted ChrD diagnosis at 3-years among an external, geographically distant validation cohort. These findings show the value of ICHRON for primary care patients in distinct locales. Additionally, electronic calculation of ICHRON empowers the clinical use of this tool to identify and differentially manage and treat high-risk patients.
