Insights into acute mesenteric ischaemia: an up-to-date, evidence-based review from a mesenteric stroke centre unit
Br J Radiol. 2023 Jul 26:20230232. doi: 10.1259/bjr.20230232. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRadiologists play a central role in the diagnostic and prognostic evaluation of patients with acute mesenteric ischaemia (AMI). Unfortunately, more than half of AMI patients undergo imaging with no prior suspicion of AMI, making identifying this disease even more difficult. A confirmed diagnosis of AMI is ideally made with dynamic contrast-enhanced CT but the diagnosis may be made on portal-venous phase images in appropriate clinical settings. AMI is diagnosed on CT based on the identification of vascular impairment and bowel ischae...

Association of dissection features and primary collateral circulation with ischemic stroke in patients with spontaneous internal carotid artery dissection: Evaluated using vessel Wall-MRI and MRA
CONCLUSIONS: Both the poor primary collateral circulation and severe stenosis may play important role in occurrence of ischemic stroke for spontaneous ICAD patients and good primary collateral circulation can help to reduce the incidence of infarction.ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: ICAD is one of the major causes of ischemic stroke. Early evaluation of the status of the Circle of Willis in ICAD patients by MRI may help to make treatment strategies and improve clinical outcome.PMID:35816551 | DOI:10.1259/bjr.20210845

Spectrum of neuroimaging findings in COVID-19.
Abstract An outbreak of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) began in China in December 2019, and rapidly spread to become a worldwide pandemic. Neurological complications encountered in hospitalized patients include acute arterial ischemic cerebrovascular stroke, cerebral venous thrombosis, critical illness-associated cerebral microbleeds, hypertensive hemorrhagic posterior reversible encephalopathy, meningoencephalitis/flare up of infections, flare up of multiple sclerosis, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, cerebral hemodynamic/hypoxic changes such as watershed ischemic changes and hypoxic ischemic encephalo...

Imaging assessment of acute ischaemic stroke - a review of radiological methods.
Abstract Acute ischaemic stroke is the second largest cause of death worldwide and a cause of major physical and psychological morbidity. Current evidence based treatment includes intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and mechanical thrombectomy (MT), both requiring careful patient selection and to be administered as quickly as possible within a limited time window from symptom onset. Imaging plays a crucial role identifying patients who may benefit from MT or IVT whilst excluding those that maybe harmed. For IVT, imaging must as a minimum exclude haemorrhage, stroke mimics and provide an estimate of non-viable brain. Fo...
