Correlation between left atrial spontaneous echocardiographic contrast and 5-year stroke/death in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: In this retrospective monocentric study, the presence of moderate/severe LASEC was an independent predictor of stroke/death at 5-year follow-up in patients with NVAF. The inclusion of LASEC in stroke risk scores could modestly improve risk stratification. PMID: 32873521 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Atrial premature activity detected after an ischaemic stroke unveils atrial myopathy.
CONCLUSIONS: After an ischaemic stroke or a transient ischaemic attack, excessive APCs are associated with LA remodelling. Thus, LA dilatation and dysfunction reflect early LA myopathy, which might itself be responsible for cardioembolic stroke. PMID: 32007362 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
