Long-Term Coffee Consumption and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease: A Systematic Review and a Dose-Response Meta-Analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies.
CONCLUSIONS: A non-linear association between coffee consumption with CVD risk was observed in this meta-analysis. Moderate coffee consumption was inversely significantly associated with CVD risk, with the lowest CVD risk at 3 to 5 cups/d, and heavy coffee consumption was not associated with elevated CVD risk. Blood Pressure Management in the 21st Century: Maximizing Gains and Minimizing Waste.
Abstract The development of effective pharmacological strategies for lowering blood pressure was one of medical science's major success stories of the 20(th) century. Blood pressure was proven beyond doubt to be causally and continuously related to future risk of cardiovascular events,(1) and lowering blood pressure was proven to reduce that risk.(2-4) Pooled data from randomized trials collectively showed that lowering systolic blood pressure by 10 mmHg reduced coronary heart disease risk by about a quarter and risk of stroke by about a third, irrespective of prior disease history, initial blood pressure level, o...

Predictors of Long Term Outcomes in Symptomatic Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy Patients Undergoing Surgical Relief of Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction.
CONCLUSIONS: Symptomatic adult HCM patients undergoing surgery for relief of LVOT obstruction have low event rate during long-term follow up; with worse outcomes predicted by increasing age and presence of residual AF during follow up. PMID: 23770748 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Fifteen-Year Trends in Awareness of Heart Disease in Women: Results of a 2012 American Heart Association National Survey.
CONCLUSIONS: Awareness of CVD among women has improved in the past 15 years, but a significant racial/ethnic minority gap persists. Continued effort is needed to reach at-risk populations. These data should inform public health campaigns to focus on evidenced-based strategies to prevent CVD and to help target messages that resonate and motivate women to take action. Elevated blood pressure in pregnancy and subsequent chronic disease risk.
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated blood pressure during pregnancy, regardless of type and even without known risk factors, signals high risk of later cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes mellitus. Clinical monitoring, risk factor evaluation, and early intervention could benefit women with hypertension in pregnancy. PMID: 23401113 [PubMed - in process]
