Effectiveness and safety of Dabigatran 110 mg versus 150 mg for Stroke Prevention in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation at High Bleeding Risk
Clin Ther. 2023 Jun 26:S0149-2918(23)00192-3. doi: 10.1016/j.clinthera.2023.05.007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: The effectiveness and tolerability of a reduced dose (110 mg) of dabigatran versus the standard dose (150 mg) were evaluated in subgroups of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) at high bleeding risk.METHODS: Eligible patients were adults with AF and a creatinine clearance rate ≥30 mL/min who were initiated on treatment with dabigatran (index) between 2016 and 2018. High-bleeding-risk subgroups were identified: (1) age ≥80 years; (2) moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance rate 30-<50 ...

Safety and Efficacy of Tirofiban Bridging Therapy During a Hybrid Carotid Artery Stenting and Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery: A Single-Center Study
This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of tirofiban as a bridging therapy after a hybrid CAS + CABG surgery.METHODS: Between June 2018 and February 2022, a total of 45 patients undergoing a hybrid CAS + off-pump CABG surgery were divided into either the control group (standard dual antiplatelet therapy postsurgery, n = 27) or the tirofiban group (tirofiban bridging + dual antiplatelet therapy, n = 18). The 30-day outcome was compared between the 2 groups, and the primary end points included stroke, postoperative myocardial infarction, and death.FINDINGS: Two patients (7.41%) from the control group experienced a strok...

Safety Signal Evaluation of a Risk of Syncope and Dizziness Not Related to Bleeding or Stroke in Direct Oral Anticoagulant-Treated Patients
Clin Ther. 2023 Jan 16:S0149-2918(22)00416-7. doi: 10.1016/j.clinthera.2022.12.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: In clinical studies, rivaroxaban treatment has been associated with increased incidence of syncope not related to bleeding, anemia, or stroke. The study objective was to evaluate the occurrence of dizziness and/or syncope not related to bleeding, anemia, or stroke in patients treated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs).METHODS: A retrospective, observational, comparative study of adult patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and treated with DOACs was conducted using digital retrieval of medica...

Effects of a Pharmacist-Led Educational Interventional Program on Electronic Monitoring-Assessed Adherence to Direct Oral Anticoagulants: A Randomized, Controlled Trial in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation
In this study, the selection of DOACs was not randomized, and the lack of assessment of the association between adherence to DOACs and clinical outcomes was a limitation. Clin Ther. 2022 Mar 25:S0149-2918(22)00082-0. doi: 10.1016/j.clinthera.2022.02.012. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: Cinnamon can reduce levels of blood lipids, blood glucose, and inflammation, which are risk factors for ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA).The goal of this study was to observe the safety and efficacy of aspirin combined with cinnamon in the treatment of patients with mild stroke or TIA.METHODS: This pilot study included patients with mild stroke or TIA treated at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital-Nanhai Hospital between January 2014 and December 2016. The primary end point was re...
