Benefits of laboratory personalized antiplatelet therapy in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
CONCLUSIONS: Coronary artery disease patients after stenting could obtain benefits from laboratory PAPT. PMID: 29064534 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Left atrial appendage closure for primary primary prevention during percutaneous closure of septal defects in patients with large atria but no atrial fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant closure of ASD or PFO in the presence of enlarged atria and LAA for primary primary prevention appears feasible and safe but has yet to prove its justification. PMID: 28840592 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comparison of dual antiplatelet therapy versus oral anticoagulation following transcatheter aortic valve replacement: A retrospective single-center registry analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: OAC after TAVR seems to reduce the risk of clinical valve thrombosis without a statistically significant increase in bleeding complications. PMID: 28497845 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Twelve-month follow-up of left atrial appendage occlusion with Amplatzer Amulet.
CONCLUSIONS: Although minimizing procedure-related complications remains challenging, LAAO with the Amplatzer Amulet device showed high procedural success and excellent LAA sealing. PMID: 28198520 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Pilot of a Computerised Antithrombotic Risk Assessment Tool Version 2 (CARATV2.0) for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: This decision support tool can help optimise the use of antithrombotic therapy in patients with AF by considering risk versus benefit profiles and rationalising treatment selection. PMID: 28070883 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Antithromboembolic strategies in atrial fibrillation: A review.
Abstract Oral anticoagulation is highly effective for stroke prevention in high-risk-patients with atrial fibrillation. AF is also a risk for dementia, and effective OAC reduces the risk of dementia. Up to 30% of patients with atrial fibrillation have a coronary artery disease and antiplatelets are used to avoid thrombotic complications]. Patients with atrial fibrillation oft have an acute coronary syndrome und undergo a percutaneous intervention with stent-implantation. These patients require a triple therapy, i.e. the combination of oral anticoagulation with dual-anti-platelet therapy. It is obvious that OAC may...

The OPTImal duration of Dual Anti Platelet Therapy in patients receiving percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents.
CONCLUSIONS: There was no difference in efficacy outcomes between short-term and long-term DAPT following DES, even among high-risk patients. However, longer duration of DAPT was found to be associated with increased risk of major bleeding. PMID: 26711462 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Evaluation of the impact of warfarin's time-in-therapeutic range on outcomes of patients with atrial fibrillation in Turkey: Perspectives from the Observational, Prospective WATER Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: WATER provides insights into the anticoagulation control status of AF patients in Turkey. The quality of anticoagulation was poor. Strategies should be undertaken by the clinician and patients to improve TTR. New oral anticoagulant agents may be ideal alternatives for NVAF patients. Management of patients with valvular and non-valvular atrial fibrillation in Poland: Results from Reference Cardiology University Centre.
CONCLUSIONS: Our population with AF have similar risk of stroke and bleeding as in European registries. The need for anticoagulation in AF patients is well established in daily medical care in Poland similarly to Western Europe. Patients with valvular AF are more frequently prescribed antithrombotic therapy than patients with non-valvular AF. In-hospital mortality is relatively low in both valvular and non-valvular AF patients and connected with old age and diminished EF. PMID: 25428729 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Hybrid strategy for unstable patients with severe carotid and cardiac disease requiring surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: In this series, synchronous carotid stenting and cardiac surgery were feasible with an acceptable complication rate in a high-surgical-risk population, which could not undergo staged procedures. PMID: 24526504 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Antithrombotic therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation and acute coronary syndrome in the real world: data from the Berlin AFibACS Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that in AFibACS patients, antithrombotic treatment focussed on dual antiplatelet therapy for ACS, rather than on anticoagulation therapy for stroke prevention. Factors influencing therapy at discharge were age, renal failure, stent implantation, AFib category, and CHA₂DS₂-VASc score. During the study period, triple therapy increased for stented patients. Outcomes of invasive treatment in very elderly Polish patients with non-ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction from 2003-2009 (from the PL-ACS registry).
CONCLUSIONS: Elderly patients with NSTEMI benefit significantly from invasive strategies and modern pharmacotherapy recommended by treatment guidelines. Nevertheless, this approach is associated with an increased incidence of major bleeding. PMID: 23558809 [PubMed - in process]
