Endovascular management of cerebral septic embolism: Three recent cases and review of the literature. (P3.299)
Conclusions:The literature reports overall favorable outcomes and recanalization rates with endovascular management of cerebral septic emboli causing acute ischemic stroke, but one should remain cautious because these outcomes may be influenced by publication bias. Mechanical embolectomy could be considered in select cases even in the setting of prior infarcts and/or systemic anticoagulation, upon careful informed consent with the patient and/or family/health care proxy. Temporal relationship between infective endocarditis and stroke
Conclusions: The association between IE and stroke persists for longer than previously reported. Most diagnoses of stroke and IE are made close together in time, but a period of heightened stroke risk becomes apparent several months before the diagnosis of IE and lasts for several months afterward.
