Poisoning by Plants
CONCLUSION: The clinician should be able to recognize dangerous domestic species of poisonous plants, take appropriate initial measures, and avoid overdiagnosis and overtreatment. To improve patient care, systematic epidemiological and clinical studies are needed.PMID:35140011 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0124

The Prevention and Treatment of Nausea and Vomiting During Tumor Therapy
CONCLUSION: Detailed, effective, risk profile-adapted algorithms for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting are now available for patients undergoing classic chemotherapy regimens or combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Optimal symptom control for patients undergoing oral tumor therapy over multiple days in the outpatient setting remains a challenge.PMID:35140010 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0093

Phytotherapy in Adults With Recurrent Uncomplicated Cystitis-a Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: Phytotherapeutic agents are an option for the treatment and prevention of recurrent cystitis in women. Given the heterogeneous state of the evidence on phytotherapy, no dependable recommendations can now be made for the clinical management of these patients with respect to phytotherapeutic agents.PMID:35101170 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0104

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
CONCLUSION: ECMO is a valid option in selected patients when conservative treatment has failed.PMID:35037618 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0068

A Comparison and Evaluation of International Guidelines on the Treatment of Severe SARS-CoV-2 Infection
CONCLUSION: The consultation of multiple high-quality international guidelines and guideline recommendations shared in online portals such as MagicApp are helpful sources of information for clinicians. In view of the continuing lack of strong evidence, further research on intensive care treatments is needed (aspects of ventilation, positioning therapy, and the role of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation [ECMO]).PMID:34939920 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0006

Paradoxical Reactions to Biologicals in Chronic Inflammatory Systemic Diseases
CONCLUSION: Paradoxical reactions induced by biological agents are a problem confronting physicians in multiple specialties. They need to be distinguished from infectious and neoplastic diseases and from autoimmune conditions of other types. The treatment options for paradoxical reactions include local treatment, symptomatic therapy, prednisolone administration, and the discontinuation or switching of the biological agent, although some patients will react with a further paradoxical reaction to a different biological agent that is used instead.PMID:34939919 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0067
